Back in 2016, I bought this 2012 Trout atomic refractor (PR of 10) for $110. I sold it just a few months later for a little over $200. Back then, nearly doubling your money on a non-rookie parallel in such a short time was a big win.

But then people started to take notice that this was Trout’s first Topps Chrome card. And then Covid happened, and people went berserk for super rare Chrome cards. I never saw another one sell, but the comps during Covid suggested this could’ve fetched $5k-$6k.

It still hurts.

I pulled two different Ohtani image variations out of 2018 series two. I believe I sold them both almost immediately.

Sold my 94" UD Mantle / Griffey dual auto in 2021 for 7K and thought I did alright.

Seeing what they sell for now certainly stings a bit, likely will never sell the other.

2018 Bowman Chrome Ohtani (Batting) auto for 9k in fall 2024 jumps to mind immediately.

I bought mine (BGS 8.5/10) in July 2018 for 2k, but I can’t believe what the recent ones have sold for (if the prices on eBay are accurate).

These have almost doubled in the last 18 months… wonder why

Mid-April 2021 (~30 days, 40% return, not bad right?)

My biggest baseball regret is a 2017 Topps Chrome Judge green refractor auto out pulled from a Walmart Mega. Sold for $400 the night he broke the rookie home run record. Had it at $300, saw he broke the record, raised it to $400, and it was snatched within 10 minutes.

I don't necessarily regret selling it, as the funds I received from the sale let me buy a lot more wax and other cards, but I pulled this Ohtani out of the first hobby box I ever bought in my life ~25 years after completely getting out of the hobby. Redeemed and then sold it on eBay for $2.4k in July 2023 (Ohtani was in the middle of a ridiculous heater which I'm sure helped goose the final #).

A year later, I saw the same person that bought the card had sold it (after getting it graded PSA 9/10) for $1.3k. The sale was right before people started to realize Ohtani could get 50/50. That guy took over a $1k bath (plus grading fees) on the card. Ouch.

Fast forward to today, and 2 MVP's, a 50/50 season, and 2 WS titles later, Cardladder says the same card is now worth over $5k. While I might wince a little knowing the card I sold is now worth double what I sold it for, at least I'm not the guy that bought the card, lost over $1k selling it a year later, and the card is now worth 4x what he sold it for. Lol Officially, my sale is still the record high sale for that card.

The color match is pretty sweet, I have to admit.

edit: looking back at June of 2023, Ohtani hit 15 HR, batted .394 and slugged .952 during the month, and mashed a nearly 500 foot moonshot a day before my auction ended. LOL

My dream is to hit an Ohtani in a box I open.

Don't think it'll ever happen, only opening about 4 boxes a year

Think this more than qualifies for this thread. Pack pulled, personally subbed. Sold for $400 in early ‘19. Ouch.

OOOOF. And that auto is nice and sharp too.

Not my sale, but I wonder how much the person that sold these 2 are regretting their decision today...

Also, it sucks that I parted with two acuna white jersey ssp that I pulled in 2018.

In addition, a 2018 topps update Ohtani black.

But these are mere crumbs compared to the 2000 contenders championship ticket Brady auto/100 I sold for $10.

And no, I haven’t jumped off a bridge yet.

Anyone's who been in the hobby since the late 2010s has had some sort of regret (selling, trading, not buying, etc).

We are all very aware that you regret not cornering both the high protein AND high fat infant formula markets, losing out on major profits. Now you are forced to utilize reused top loaders to house your “collection.”

Maybe you’ll get it right next time.

I’m still sickened about all the nursing moms you took advantage of during the pandemic.

I don't know why you keep claiming that I flipped infant formula but I also don't know why you attempted to breastfeed your kids too. Maybe you should've stopped drinking your wife's breast milk....it was meant for your children!

What better company to fund your Steph Curry rookie card collection than enfamil?

Speaking of Enfamil, you should consider switching to gentlease. It'll help with your gas, fussiness and crying, certainly helped with my kids. Your wife would probably appreciate it too, leave the breastfeeding to the kids.
