Traded my Beckett 9.5 Trout Update RC for a SGC 6.5 1967 Tom Seaver the year before Trout got his first season ending injury. Got lucky on that one because I still have his PSA 8 Gold Update RC.

Luckily I never held any of them to serious regret level.

If you approach purchasing cards with the intention to keep it forever, you will never regret the purchase.

This deserves its own thread.

Cardladder estimates its value at $7.3k now....but I feel that is about $7.29k too much.

I don’t know how it could be worth anything at all. I remember seeing the Superfractor auto in person. The owner brought it to a Florida Fire Frogs game to get a picture of it with Wander (he played for the Stone Crabs at the time), and back in 2019 people were saying it was a $60k-$80k card… probably could have cracked $400k around his debut.

I was standing about 3 feet away from the owner of the card as he took this picture. If only we knew then… although we all should have bailed as soon as he was suspended for a week for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Yeah, there was a small window where people could have bailed on their big Wander cards and probably escaped with just a moderate loss. But once the full details came out, it was Enron time for the Wander market.

I have to admit I have a huge Wander collection and never sold. I thought if Tampa was willing to give him a long term contract extension (when they don't really do this for any other players) it was a good sign that they thought he was a superstar. And I went down with the ship.

I also have to admit this makes me hesitate to collect/buy any active player except for Ohtani at this moment.

It is an all around sad situation. While Tampa does not have to pay his contract, I am stuck with all of his worthless cards.

Dude would have likely had a stellar career...maybe even HOF worthy. He certainly showed the talent in his brief MLB career. He terrified me every time we had to face the Rays with him in the lineup.

But he threw it all away for underage girls. Such an idiot.

Back in the mid-2000's the pro$pecterz couldn't stop drooling over Matt LaPorta so stupidly I trusted them.

Never, ever, ever again.

Gleyber was actually up there with Acuna, Ohtani and Soto if you remember all the way back to that incoming rookie class in 2018
