Default Stefon Diggs faces strangulation, assault charges

Not sure how much this will impact the Patriots Super Bowl run.

What's interesting is the Patriots statement says, "We support Stefon." They usually don't make statements that include that verbiage.

Weird story. Involves a personal chef.

Instead of saying, "Sue me" and walking out of the room he might have assaulted her.

How do courts usually resolve, "He said. She said." when there isn't any evidence?

Man. The playoffs haven't even started and Stefon Diggs is already choking.

Is there any proof to the claim or just he said she said?

Please don't normalize that term.

The incident was reported on December 2.

Since then, people who are paid public servants of our judicial system conducted investigations and someone at the DA's office concluded that they believed there was probably cause to charge Diggs with two crimes - one a felony, another a misdemeanor.

That decision does not equal proof beyond a reasonable doubt, which is required to secure a criminal conviction, but saying "fake news" about this undermines everything about our criminal justice system.

PS - the news didn't "make up" (aka fake news) that he was being charged with a crime. It happened. You may not like that it happened, but the news reporting on it doesnt make the news biased or "fake."

Fake news? Crazy how accurate the book 1984 was...

So they didn’t press charges then? Why now? Did they get new evidence?

I'm not them.

But what usually happens after an alleged crime is repoted is an investigation takes place.

The investigation can take days or weeks.

Then a DA looks at the elements of the crime pursuant to the criminal code, the evidence gathered, the manner in which it was gathered (if your evidence comes from a warrantless search - it's bad, inadmissible evidence, will get thrown out, so a DA will generally say don't waste time pursuing) and makes an informed decision as whether they have enough to charge someone with a crime and potentially get a conviction.

I don't have anything further to say about any of this, as I have no firsthand knowledge.

I just felt the need to address the "sounds like fake news" comment, as that response is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Drives me nuts.

The people that use that term (and started the widespread use of that term) are typically either lazy and don't want to address the issue or they know they're in trouble and use the term to distract and discredit.

It's pathetic.

Cheese and crackers, mister.

Didn't realize it was that triggering.

I'll search for another generic comment to use from now.
