What do you mean by re-made sets? Probably a dumb question, but a set that was made and then they made another similar to it?

The ones I have now are:

5 - Goonies sets
2 - Star Trek Enterprise sets

But am looking at adding multiples of the Home Alone set as it appears the value increases during the holidays since it seems to be a set everyone wants. And then two other people mentioned the Titanic set, which at that price, my max would probably be two.

I would like at minimum of two of each set just in case my kids get into Legos here in the next 5-8 years.

I'll look into the Daily Bugle as well, as my favorite superhero happens to be Spiderman. Thanks again for the info.

Look at Harry potter sets. About every 3 to 5 years they basically remake each set. Harry Potter is probably one of the worst investments, unless you go big like Gringots. There are few one offs, the creatures, they did Faukes, Hungarian Horntail and Hedwig, they are pretty cool sets, but they will not be huge returns anytime soon.

You also have to take into consideration that just about every set you got is huge, when you do sell shipping is going to be a major factor.

As for sale, you just have to be diligent and keep checking the site. Everything that will be on sale will go on sale at midnight eastern time.

See post above for reasoning for re-released sets. Like for example, there is a buildable groot on shelves right now. Yes It is new in the sense that it is a ravager suit, but it is the third buildable groot set they have done in the past 2 years.

The goonies and star trek sets just came out so its going to be really hard to tell right now if they are going to be a good investment or not, come early spring next year when lego puts out there retiring list for the end of the year and either of those are on it, I would say absolutely pick those up during a sale/vip weekend, 2 year or less shelf life sets that are unique are the best ones to go for.

The home alone set may be a good set to invest in but it is definitely going to be a LONG term investment, because it has been available on shelves for years. Because of that more people that wanted the set already have it probably and there are a ton of them out there. Even when stuff first retired, unless it is a DTC set (i.e. only available via lego and not walmart, amazon, etc). It will be continue to be sold on through them until it sells out.

For sales and events-wise, if you are not a lego vip member, sign up this is an absolute must. You earn 5% back in the form of points on all purchases from lego's official website or lego stores. VIP events will see 2,3, or 4x points so you can earn as high as 20% back. These points do not expire. You also get access to exclusive gift with purchase events where you get free sets if you spend a certain threshold, and a lot of times these free sets can be very valuable.

For example, earlier this year we got the new Black Pearl (Capt Jack Sparrrow's pirate ship ) and it was for sale for $349.95. I had enough rewards points saved up where i got $200. Then there was also a exclusive gift with purchase set of a buildable compass which i sold on ebay for $100. So I only payed $50 out of pocket for a $350 set.

Thank you for this. I will be signing up to be a Lego member. I should've done my due diligence in that regard before purchasing the two sets I already purchased. I appreciate the heads up and all the info.

I find it funny that no one has corrected you yet on 'Legos'. Just about every other group that I follow, half of these posts would have been about correcting you in that the plural of Lego is just Lego.. kind of refreshing lol

I'll add my to cents on Lego Collecting/Investing. Love that there are this many people into Lego. Such a great product (pricing aside).

1. Minifigures, Minifigures, Minifigures. Whether it's new sets with a mini figure never released before OR loose lego found at yard sale/Facebook marketplace/craigslist, minifigures are the biggest resale factor IMO. Look at LotR Bara-Dur, Sauron minifigure was selling for $150+ out of the gate, that was 1/3 the price for the set.

2. Licensing, this is a big one (LotR, One Piece, Formula 1) that can drive investing value. Popular license should hold value over time, HOWEVER, as pointed above, look at Harry Potter, there is SO MUCH produced that the investing aspect of that is not that great (outside the BIG sets). Star Wars on the other hand, may not be the best for investing, however better than HP, you just have to be more selective, think battle packs OR sets that have specific figures ONLY released in that set (this aspect is more important in Star Wars than HP as I feel minifigures for HP are not as highly sought after as the characters are not as unique like they are in Star Wars).

3. Series, for example Speed Champions, very collectable series, specific to people that just collect all lego, or if they are car lovers, specific car brand lovers, or more specifically Formula 1. Use the licensing aspect in point 2 and combine that with the the speed champions series. Lego released a speed champion Formula 1 series, so if I was looking to invest I would consider not only ALL 10 Formula 1 teams, I would possibly even buy specifically the most notable teams (Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren), or even more specific, just buy a lot of the Ferrari formula 1 car. Reason being is these sets are now on sale for $5-6 off there $35 price (at least I think they were that much). They are also not that big so shipping would be easy, and more than likely these sets won't be remade for a while. The example I gave above for Ferrari, you are not only capturing people who would collect speed champions, but Formula 1 fans AND people who just love the Ferrari brand.

4. Discounts, Target and Wal Mart have them all the time, in addition to the option of using Lego VIP Points. Also, Barnes and Nobles club members get like 10-15% off every purchase, to include Lego, which they are starting to have better and better selections (I mean real good selection). I think Barnes and Nobles even takes book donations for store credit (You would have to check that, and if true you can donate books if you can get your hands on good condition used books for VERY cheap or FREE, then get store credit THEN use your B&N membership to get a discount on top).

Hope that helps some. I'll add more as I see replies and comments. Lego is a great product.

This is how i ended up getting back into Lego. Started during the last year of the 6 stud cars. The price point for these was perfect, $16 for single pack and $25 for 2 packs. This year single packs are $26.99, and next year they go up again to $27.99. As a Price point to Piece count its still some of the better deals than say Star Wars, which is the worst price to piece ratio of all the Lego lines. If investing in Speed Champs, waiting until they are on sale is key. Usually the 2 packs have a better resale value than the singles. I can't believe how much the Lambo 2 pack from 2 years ago has gone up. As for the current line, the only 2 pack I would really try and get is the Aston Martin 2 pack as this was a Walmart exclusive and is currently Sold Out and gone from the Lego website. They had an awesome Black Friday sale where all 3 2 packs from this year were on sale for $24.99 which is about 40-45% off.

edit: for those interested, there is a preorder for the the Back to the Future DeLorean Speed Champ set for $27.99. This will be hard to find right out of the gate as the other 2 DeLorean sets are either retired or too much. The one set that is available is $260, the other retired set will run you about $150ish unopened. So at $28 this will open up a huge market for those wanting a DeLorean. Again if you are patient, Speed Champs usually have a shelf life of 2 years before retiring.

Not everything as I have some sets in storage both sealed and just not enough space, but this is my current lego wall in my man cave

do have a couple sealed sets on there just cause I love the box art. Hiding on the bottom left shelf in the corner is the Delorean Time Machine and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1

This is an old photo... have more. Unfortunately the wife isn't the biggest Lego fan so my display area is very limited.

Nice collections!!!

Anybody have a hard time with deciding what to buy when you want so much?

I'm glad I don't have unlimited funds where I can buy everything as IMO that would just make the purchase have less meaning/value, but man I have a hard time deciding on the sets I want as all my free money goes to investing or paying down debt, so I have a hard time spending it on Lego, however I absolutely want some sets, problem is they are all expensive.

In no particular order:

Rivendell
Bara-Dur
Gringotts
Hogsmeade
Red Bull F1 (Technic)
Minas Tirith (as long as its not micro scale, which I think it might be)
Brittanic (only a rumor I believe, so possibly ZERO credibility to it, however I thought one of the YouTube channels I check for leaks made mention of another large ship coming in 2026). IMO the titanic set is the most incredible set lego has ever made, absolutely amazing.

This was me for the longest time, i debated so long before buying my first high dollar set, but once I did was hooked. My first "high end" set was the DeLorean Time Machine

Once you go big and see get to experience the build techniques, the time it takes to build them (I will typically watch the movies that correspond with the build). It's honestly so fun and fulfilling once you have the finished product.

Of those sets, Gringotts would be at the top of my list. But i recently did a little downsizing, my lego wall used to extend around the room, just was getting too much, the Harry Potter theme ended up on the chopping block, only have a few left. Just other stuff I would prefer to focus on.

Plus when sets retired and I can sell preowned sets for more than what I paid and can reinvest into a new thing to build that I want more feels pretty good too!

Yeah that's a big part of it for me, I can't afford NOR do I want to buy all the sets because I don't want a massive collection, so I have to dwindle it down, part of the reason why I don't think I'll buy the shire LotR set, love the LotR series, but wasn't overly impressed with the shire set, so I'll probably pass.

However sets creep that I just think are great, like the mini figure gumball machine, absolutely cool set, we'll probably try to grab that one as well.

I have an obscene amount of legos. I never stopped building, and my son does as well so it's kind of insane. I have LED sets and a customizable LED thing to custom wire sets, and lots of Citizen Brick and Brickrock stuff as well.

Maybe 10 years ago my son and I spent a year building a "space base" with retractable pocket hangar doors, LED lights in the walls, and exploding bridges controllable from my phone. It was pretty nuts.

I think the Stranger Things Creel House, Goonies, and current Death Star have potential upside.

Also the Dark Falcon, feels like it won't sell quite as well but is an interesting offbeat SW set. I have one, unopened.

I don't collect Legos but my son does. His favorite series were Lego Mixels and he collected all 81 of them. He also collects the Lego Dreamzz sets and anything Mech/Robot. We bought him the big $250 Fortnite Lego Mecha Team Leader for Christmas.

On a side note, we went to a "Brick" and Mortar store in Omaha (the only one in the state) that had lots of old retired sets and my Son had a blast looking through them..so when we went on vacation to Seattle for Thanksgiving we looked to see if there were Second hand Lego stores there too. There were 15 of them within a 2 hour drive so we spent a day and hit like 6 of them. The highlight of his trip.

I can't wait to see this Minas Tirith set. Supposed to be largest LotR set ever, exceeding the 6,100 piece count of Rivendell.

Maybe my hope for a not micro scale set might come true. Hoping the minifigures are more than what is being provided, the characters are cool, was just hoping we would have more in the 15 mini figure range.

I have a lego room and focus mostly on 80s & 90s stuff. The newer lego stuff doesn't really do it for me. Plus, the new stuff is pretty expensive. (I know the irony in that comment, since I focus on the 80s/90s stuff)

I've been lucky, I focus on finding stuff second hand and stores that sell bulk legos with a pick a brick setup. The allure is that it is a total free for all. It sells everything for the same price. It could be valuable, rare pieces from the 80s or brand new bricks opened yesterday. I've done really, really well finding the "good" stuff.

Bought my dad for Christmas the Lego Shelby Cobra set. It looks pretty sweet and it's his favorite car.

This! We need more shelfs and tables because of our lego sets. I’m gonna put Gizmo together this week and hoping my wife gets me the Goonies Galleon next month for my B-Day.

Last large set I did was the shuttle/747 and it takes up a lot of real estate on office table.
