Interesting story brought up yesterday on Felger/Maz

Apparently there's a chance that Bregman may move on and sign with the Diamondbacks.

If so, the Red Sox would/could trade Mayer in exchange for Ketel Marte.

Maz's (I think all Sox fans really) issue with this is that Marte is known to be a bit of a club house cancer, and the only reason the Sox would want him is due to his contract. Thus driving home the fact that with Dever's, it was never about his attitude, and it was 100% about his contract.

For Mayer, they've already begun to PR spin that they believe he may just be a utility player. Although most talking heads believe it's because he wouldn't agree to sign a deal like Campbell / Anthony.

He's not even a poor man's Pete Alonso. He's a dead man's Pete Alonso. He's 33 and in 10 seasons he's played a total of 131 games at 1B. Not exactly a first baseman. This was a great Oakland A's move. And maybe now that's a team we can beat. Because the Sox sure aren't going to do much against the AL East.

Crazy contract for Bregman. I don't blame them for matching or beating.

That said, bringing Bregman in screwed up the Devers situation, resulting in him being traded for a bag of balls.

Now, the Sox have neither of them on the roster and they're the only team to not sign an MLB free agent.

Just an absolutely pathetic showing.

Perfectly said. The Bregman contract has a lot of chances to be a disaster, no matter how much value he added in the clubhouse. So I don't mind the Sox holding firm. But when you widen the scope and consider that one-year of Bregman resulted in a loss of Devers for nothing, it looks very bad for the front office at the moment. .

That said -- I think what they've done the pitching front is extremely solid, particularly if you believe that at least one of either Tolle or Early has the chance to ultimately be a mid-rotation or better starter.

Through trades at least they have added some decent pieces but so far this offseason has been a D
