Need some advice on a BGS Mechanical Error (ME).
I have a 2024 Topps Now MLS #128 Stephen Curry / Lionel Messi Black Parallel (/99). It graded a Pristine 10 (Pop 1), but the label shows the base print run (/110182) instead of the serial number. I’ve emailed BGS but haven't received a response in several days. Given the card’s value (around $500) and slow turnarounds, I’m weighing two options: 1. Return to BGS for correction: Is there any significant risk of a grade change or further QC issues during a re-slab? 2. PSA Crossover: While BGS 10s are rare, this isn't a Black Label. I would be satisfied with a PSA 10 and a correct label, though I understand a crossover is not guaranteed. What would you do in this situation? Thanks in advance. |

Depends on what your plans are with it, but probably #1 is best. But have it clear IN WRITING that you are sending it in free of charge to just slab it correctly because it was incorrectly slabbed.
At some point they'll get back to you. I would only do #2 if you were considering cracking and sending to PSA anyway. The "crossover" would be a waste of time I'd think, as they'd charge you even if it's denied correct? And a BGS 10 to PSA 10 is at best equal values, so paying just to have a chance at that doesn't seem to make sense to me. |

https://www.beckett.com/tos "Occasionally an item may have a typographical error on the label. Upon receipt from us, you must inspect all items and report any damage or discrepancy to us within five (5) days of receipt." I recently had to go through this with them, and was surprised about their 5 day rule. Their customer service rep told me that since it's been longer than 5 days, then their "warranty" for the item expired. He did offer though to pay for the return shipping back to them, but for the new correct label, new case, and shipping back to me... all that was on me. You might get a faster response if you email them directly (customerservice@beckett.com) rather than go through the site "Contact us" submission form. There is always risk, however small, that they could accidently damage your card during the re-label and re-case process. So, it's a tough decision, considering your item is a Pristine 10 (Pop 1). There is also risk involved if you send it to PSA for a crossover, which is also minimal risk, but they could accidently damage it during the crossover process... presuming they would accept the crossover to a Gem Mint 10 to begin with. I hate wrong labels... so if it was me, then I'd take the risk of sending it back to BGS for the correction. Now that BGS is becoming part of Collectors, then it won't matter in the long run, I guess. It's possible that Collectors might introduce a single grading standard in the future across their three brands (PSA, SGC, BGS), so any future issues will be resolved in the same way across the board. |

Seems simple to me: Option 1.
If BGS messed up, then I would take it back to BGS to get it corrected free of charge.

Regarding the contact, I actually emailed customerservice@beckett.com and used their site form four days ago, but I’m still waiting on both. I’m also looking into the PSA Crossover since a 'Minimum Grade 10' should keep it safe in the slab if they don't agree with the grade. To be honest, even though BGS 10s are tougher to get, I’m one of those people who prefers a clean PSA 10 over seeing a 9.5 subgrade on a BGS label. Appreciate the help! |

If 'surface' or 'corners' got the 9.5, it might not cross. If centering or edges got the 9.5, it probably could cross...maybe.

I actually changed my mind on my original advice - With BGS's current uncertainty and given it's a newer Topps Now cards (which collectors typically prefer in PSA slabs), I'm not so sure a BGS 10 would outsell a PSA 10 all things consider right now.
So basically, if the card truly looks pristine I may just take a chance & send it to PSA to try to secure the 10 grade. I can see the plausibility in that scenario. Are you the one who got the card for $449 on Ebay also? That seems absurdly cheap to me. The Base Version to 110 THOUSAND goes for $150 in a PSA 10. Just a 3x multiplier from 110,000 to 99 seems absolutely crazy. It's like if Wemby's Prizm Rookie /99 sold for just 3x more than his base Prizm. The multiplier makes no sense.
