I sent over a message on eBay after seeing him selling stuff I won on 'Snype'. No Idea why really, considering some intern would read it.

They actually replied to their credit.. and pretty much told me to suck poo.

Anyone send him items that were listed on snype only to have them pulled? I asked that my two items be sold off on ebay or sent back to me. I never had an issue with him buying or selling. He always paid fast and listed quickly which is more than most consignment outfits can say but I want my things sold or sent back. The lack of communication is astounding.

I’m sure you’ll be fine. Their offices must be quite hectic right now I would imagine. Give them a few days at least to reply back. Sellers love Probsteyn!

And now Rick uses his new email list to announce his return to ebay

eBay could really have done the industry a service if they booted Ricky P.

He left them in hopes of becoming a direct competitor. Fell flat on his face and really had no recourse but to go back to eBay. And they just welcome him back with open arms? Smh...

At least they should have reset his feedback to zero.

Rovell is also a piece of work. His journalistic integrity in his "reporting" on this matter is almost non-existent. An embarrassment from Medill School of Journalism.

Corporations tend to like money, they aren't exactly known for making principled stands

I don't really have a problem with eBay allowing Probstein to come back -- he may have been outed for his shill bidding, but it was for his own short-lived platform. What I have a problem with is eBay claiming they kicked PWCC off their platform for shill bidding when clearly it was because they were creating their own auction platform -- eBay was being butthurt and totally phony about their reasoning because they knew damn well that other consigners like Probstein were doing the same thing. The FBI was allegedly investigating PWCC for fraud well before they got kicked off eBay, and eBay did nothing about it.

The shill bidding on eBay is not just with consigners like Probstein -- it's widespread and rampant, involving both big and small sellers.

True.

But from EBay's perspective it's a tiny problem affecting only a few product categories....the vast majority of items on EBay across ALL categories are sold via BIN/BO.

And even out of all the sports card/collectible auction, what percent are shilled? 1%?

From their perspective it's just not a problem worth dealing with.

Only 1%? For low-end stuff, sure. But I think it's much more common than that with mid-to-high-end. In fact, I think it's only getting worse and worse -- a lot of price manipulation going on in the hobby the further we get away from the pandemic boom. A lot of entities in the hobby want prices to stay high and can't afford for them to drop.

My point was that while high-end stuff gets the majority of the attention, there are actually far more low-value (unshilled) transactions.

For every $1000 card that gets sold on EBay, there are probably several hundred transactions <$100.

but since the ebay fees on the $1000+ auctions are so much more then the lower auctions is why ebay turns a blind eye to the shilling. I'm saying 80% of the $1000+ auctions are shilled and this is why ebay should be held accountable.

If accurate, the shoddy reporting from Cllct/Rovell looks even worse.

Haven't heard anything about all of this recently. Is this gonna slide away into the nether since there's so much other nonsense happening in the hobby? A lot of people had their personal information compromised from this, and as far as I know Probstein has done absolutely nothing to rectify it.

What more is there to say?

What would Snype even do to rectify it? They can’t steal the leaked information back.

I guess I was hoping for at least one facet of this broken hobby to offer a cookie of hope that someone out there has a tiny shred of morality. That's a pretty big wish.

Nobody liked Probstein before, nobody liked him during, and even more people dislike him now. The system works. Still baffled how anyone felt good giving Snype their personal info.

If there’s some consequences for Snype/Probstein for this, I think it’s safe to say everyone here is all for it.

Same reason people gave/give their info to ALT.

The potential of getting a good deal on a card they wanted was worth giving up their personal info.

You can’t be too upset if you pick up a scorpion and it stings you.

Either way, hunny_bunny made sure there were no good deals to be had.

Best thing we can do now is avoid his eBay store.

Probstein interviewed Bill Mastro on his Instagram account in 2021: https://cardlines.com/the-depressing...tro-interview/

Mastro went to prison for orchestrating shill bidding on his auction platform -- should anyone be surprised that Probstein allegedly did the same thing?
