Probably true but this deal is more about them keeping the floor high than the ceiling IMO. Their ability to stay competitive (above .500) with their payroll in that division is impressive IMO.
Trading Lowe and Baz might make them 5-8 less wins next season but adds 3-6 wins with these prospects to every season 2027-2030.
They just need to catch some SP lightning in a bottle one postseason to win another pennant. I’m very curious to see how McClanahan looks next year along with Rasmussen, Pepiot, Seymour, Matz and maybe Boyle.
Rays are a fun team to collect as all their players come at a small discount vs bigger market talent.

Agree, but I like it from Baltimore's perspective as well. Both teams get what they need.

The Rays? The other day the projections had them in last place in the Division.

I feel as if they are always placed "last" or "second to last" then place first or second.

Id also project them 3rd or 4th with BAL and TB being clearly weaker than NY/BOS.
That said they’re perpetually pesky.

agreed, he didn't come cheap, but if Baltimore is 'going for it', which the Alonso signing indicates, then these are the moves that need to be made.

Rays' new ownership is likely deciding to build around Caminero and the prospects to see what they have, and they won't have championship aspirations for likely a couple seasons at the least.

Redsox acquire Wilson Contreras from Cardinals. Does this mean the end of the Triston Casas experiment ?

Quote:
The Red Sox are acquiring Willson Contreras from the Cardinals, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The Cardinals will get righties Hunter Dobbins, Yhoiker Fajardo and Blake Aita and will send Boston $8 million, That means Triston Casas could open up in Triple-A according to Passan.

Unless I'm missing something St. Louis just basically dumped Contreras for almost nothing? (and sent money too!) Rough.

Yhoiker is the name to watch, he's had some helium lately.

Shrewd move for Boston, who get a major upgrade at 1B, Willson will rake in that ballpark. And yes, the Casas experiment is over, you have to actually be able to hit if you play 1B.

I would say the problem for Casas is staying on the field, he has a career 119 wRC+. He can hit. Might be a good change of scenery guy though because Boston fans are irrational generally.

I agree with this. FWIW, Steamer projects their wOBA at .341-.338. It seems like they soured on him pretty quickly, so maybe there's more going on than meets the eye. Should be a quality pickup target for about 1/3 of the league.
