I'd like to remind everyone of this little gem from a view years back.

I meant 'we' as a whole, I haven't bought a box for years either, but it's clear that many people are - there's a whole new wave of 'collectors' that are even more willing to spend money than ever before.

You're confusing gamblers/investors with actual collectors.

The only reason people buy 90% of soccer releases is to gamble on hitting a Messi/Lamal/Mbappe auto.

I'm not confusing anything, hence I said 'collectors' and not collectors.

Now, Distributors are breaking off all ties with breakers who can not meet or exceed the new quotas for all products across the board. I watched a few videos on it on you tube. YOU cant just buy one sport anymore. They only want to deal with the big money breakers now.

Could anyone help me value a card please?

21st year, Panini, unlicenced/pajama/no logo, Lionel Messi, 1/1?

I was thinking something like........$190,000 but I guess I was a bit light. Oh well, I guess I need to bid stronger next time......

Not in a good way.

That's beyond mental.....that's certifiably insane......looks like there are a lot of clueless crypto bros infiltrating the high end of the hobby.

I don't think it's Crypto bros, looks more like a handful of whales buying everything up to me from what I've seen over the past six months and pretty much selling and buying between each other.

Sniffs of market manipulation.

+1

It’s the same group of YT’ers cycling through fake sales between each other that somehow always land on Goldin, pwcc and lately alt. In hopes a “collector” finally grabs it for a price they thought was fair based on what they saw on yt a month ago.

Worse part is that topps and panini are involved as well and this was proven many times over.

And where do you think all those whales are getting their money from?

Crypto (or the stock market).

All crypto is down for the year. But I’m sure the boom in Messi this year is from crypto.

That's a very short-term analysis.

Crypto is up about 2x from where it was two years ago, and 5x from where it was three years ago.

There are a LOT of people sitting on a LOT of profits.

Yup in a nutshell. Manufactured FOMO, while some 'mark' ends up paying well over the odds for something they think they have got for a steal.

It's an inevitable journey, but it's sad to see.

The craziest thing is that there are tons of LICENSED Messi cards that are much better than sell much cheaper than that.

People are crazy.

Let's say that sale is bogus.

Is someone paying the buyer's fee to do this manipulation? That is significant.

I guess it is possible. That should probably be a $10,000 card.

Why?

It's a joke, and it's a perfect advert for how low and desperate this 'hobby' has become. You only have to go back a few years and this card would have been laughed off of the planet.

It's a complete joke. Pajama kits, completely unlicenced, no logos. The fact it's Messi and a '1/1' shouldn't even come into play. It's Messi a quarter of a century into his career. It's a clown card.

And you are a short-sighted analyst who thinks every sale he can’t wrap his brain around is somehow illegitimate or the dastardly doing of crypto and pelican bois.
