He can't hit MLB velocity. This guy seems like a massive trap, any team shelling out a $200 million contract will either look like absolute morons or absolute geniuses in 3 years there is no in between.
I side with absolute morons right now. |

Honestly with that K rate and BA of pitches over 93 MPH his comp may be Chris Davis.

UPDATE: He's found a home.
Jeff Passan @JeffPassan News: Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami is joining the Chicago White Sox on a two-year, $34 million contract. His physical has been passed. The deal is done. And the White Sox add a bat with superstar ceiling -- and flaws.

Sounds like not a lot of teams were interested in him

Hope this works out for the White Sox. Their fans need something positive to cheer about.

I think he outperforms that contract. He sells out for power.
I think he has the bat speed. I see .230, 30 HR

[Passan] Teams tried to get [Munetaka Murakami] for lower-dollar long-term deals, Murakami opted for a higher-dollar short-term offering, allowing himself to prove his ability to adjust to MLB pitching. Should he do so, Murakami would hit the market again at 27 and be primed to cash in on a megadeal.
Makes sense. On a side note: Anybody remember Mr. Baseball with Tom Selleck? |

It’s too bad Murakami didn’t consult with hobby experts before picking his team.

I think it’s cool the White Sox got him. I thought for sure he’d be a Met or one of the other big dollar teams. White Sox is kind of out of nowhere.

Why would he go to a team who clearly has nothing going for it?
They don't develop well, they can't "fix" players (look at how little the Brewers did to turn Vaughn around last year), the weather sucks, they have no chance to compete...must be the money and opportunity to escape some of the pressure of say, New York, and have a chance to play every day.

Because they offered him the most money per season? He bets on himself to build more value over 2 seasons and becomes a free agent again before his age 28 season. This is a 'prove it' deal that is fairly common in sports. Guy gets lowballed because GMs are scared of 'x' and decides to take on a shorter deal with higher avg $ to become a FA sooner. |

Also if he proves himself right away he will probably get traded to a contender in 2026.
Glad I sold most of my stash though.

Price was right but the fact that it’s the White Sox, amongst the worst development organizations in Baseball I’d be immediately skeptical of him making mechanical adjustments needed to handle big league velocity. The risk isn’t bad for the Sox but feels like the market for him must have been very soft if this is the deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
