Guess no premium for being bookend. The 7/25 went for $244k a month ago. Still much higher than the sale before that, which was $150k in June.

In fact, the 7/25 sold for $85k 1 year ago, so assuming it's the same person that sold in this time, netted a cool $159k profit.
Nearly 3x for the exact same card AFTER being priced in for his 50/50 season, another MVP and his first WS is preposterous, frankly.

Timing is always important.

Best times to sell are right before and/or at the peak of a given card, not afterwards, and you chose to sell at the right time (at least in the short-term).

That period between his NLDS game 4 and early November really was peak Ohtani FOMO. Lol His market could only cool down a little after that.

Last December was the best deals for Ohtani. It appears this December has been so far as well. Those people who bought high end on Goldin this past weekend should be very happy with those prices.

Also, here is Dave Roberts talking about Ohtani making a large contribution to help Gus Varland's Mom with cancer: https://x.com/TalkinBaseball_/status...187128190?s=20

This is someone who he was only teammates with for a few months.

People just want Shotime, and anyone else appearing on a card just isn't as appealing. Only exceptions are probably Ruth for past players and maybe Judge currently.
Love Ichiro & Trout too!

Yep... as everyone who has known him has mentioned,
as great as Shohei the player is,
he might be a better human being.

Now that's saying something.

I can kind of see that, especially to non baseball fans.

You really think a Judge Ohtani dual would go for more? Maybe in the short time, but I wonder if it would hold in the long run.

December certainly seems to be the "off-season" month if you had to pinpoint one period where prices are calmer. I wish I had timed my purchases better!

Sho/Trout cards have doubled this year and are going for $4-5K minimum for on-card in the /25 range.

I think the explanation for ichiro dual pricing is that they were never teammates, never overlapped careers, and the connection is more cultural. I just don't think you're going to have as much demand compared to a dynamic HoF duo that actually wore the same uniform. Yeah, blame Arte.

Mr Mayor, Ichiro played in 2018 (and even in 2019)

I get that, and to be honest I thought it was only the 5ABs in the first game his last year, but he had 47ABs in 2018 as well.

I guess I should have rephrased that they never played on the same field.

I'd take a Sho/Ichiro over an equivalent-product-rarity-etc. Sho/Judge every day of the week, and twice on days ending in 'y' - and it's not even close.

Bambino and Sho were never teammates, but wouldn’t a dual of them be light years beyond what the individual autos would be together?

I am thinking that could end up being the most expensive Sho auto out there.

I know that is apples and oranges, but can’t see the “they never played together” argument holding.

It's been a fun ride collecting these two.

You could also put an MJ/Sho auto on cardboard and it would sell well, but that's because both of those guys would sell for very high prices on their own merit. Same with Ruth.

You would also lose people based on the Ruth being a cut auto. Someone did something similar, having Sho sign a Ruth auto ball and it wasn't exactly met with a ton of enthusiasm.

So I sent this to PSA hoping it would cross to a 9...

And this just happened.

I have a vague recollection of something like this happening to the Mayor, and then they changed it to a 9? Or something like that?

Nice! Congrats!

They never fully imaged mine, Andy. I got the preview pic but not the full-blown high-res image. You are good

Very Very Excited for today's mailday. I'm a sucker for game used cards. Some of my favorite Ohtani's are the game used cards I have, like a game used letter patch, his Player's Weekend Rookie Game Used Jersey card, his dual patch card with Judge, but this card was on my wantlist the second I saw they were made. I'll never be able to afford the autographed version, but I was able to pick up a non auto'd version and am thrilled to own one.

So cool to own a little bit of history from that game
