My LCS is cheaper too, by orders of magnitude actually. Store always healthy and full and been in business 20+ years. Says a lot for how to run a business let alone a card shop in the brick and mortar world. I realize there is some apples to oranges vs the big online retailers and I do buy quite a bit of product from time to time from BO. Just didnt see anything this year I would qualify in my own mind as a deal.

I bought one of those 2014 Topps Chrome Mini cases. Pulled the Sammy Watkins RC Super. Imagine had I hit this back in 2014! Probably was the product hit at that time. Damn. Not sure what it’s worth but still have to imagine it’s worth a few hundred.

The image won’t load but here’s the link.

Edit: same case I just hit a Cameron Jordan Super as well. Guess I got a loaded case. Too bad this isn’t 2014!

Yes! but have cut back a lot the past few years. Now i'm only opening 30 or 40 Boxes and half are usually retail. so not nearly as much Punch to the breaks as they were for nearly 20 years

This is a pretty good point. I encourage more members to migrate over to Discord for Hobby discussions, it’s much much better.

They NEVER cared about the customer. They cared about selling because the margins were low and they had to sell to stay in business. For countless years the margins were mostly 25%-35% at best and sometimes they had to take a loss. The average profit margin the last 6 years is countless multiples of that. In that timeframe there have been more hobby products they have sold for a 200% or more profit margin then have sold for only a 25% profit margin or less.

To be fair none of the big businesses or breakers that are getting endless cheap allocation care. Your local shop owner or people that do this because they enjoy it there is a decent chance they do care. There used to be a ton of great guys in this hobby prior to 2020.

Grabbed a 10 box lot of 2019 on demand mini baseball for $399 this morning. Should be a fun rip with some shots at some vladdy/tatis/alonso rookies + #d cards of Ohtani

The thing most people don't get/understand is while they may not sell as much product per person now compared to pre-covid we've also seen a boom in collectors/flippers/breakers whatever term you want to use. The number of new collectors buying just 1 box each makes up for the old customers who used to buy multiples and now only buy 1 or in some cases none. Long story short BO or any other online dealer doesn't need each person to buy multiple boxes anymore to make the same amount of money or more. So what is the incentive for them to basically give away product anymore ?

Agree. Like many here, I'm disappointed the "good ol' days" are gone.

I used to make it a point at work to always get the day after Thanksgiving off just for the blowout black friday sales.

At this point, they are making so much $$$$$$ they really don't need to do those sales anymore.

I keep hoping there’s something better coming and there’s just not. Noticed they added a couple new odds and ends at some point since I checked yesterday and dropped prices (barely) on a couple things but the deals just aren’t there this year. Everything I bought last year seems to be at least 25% higher, with most stuff being 50-100% higher than last year.

Even with a lot of people being down on the sales the last few years, I was always still able to find enough deals that I’d spend well into the five figures by the end of the month. This year though I haven’t pulled the trigger on a single thing.

The stuff they had priced out cheap before was mainly bulk inventory they wanted to get rid of.

Its just funny back in the day, some stuff was priced decently but now its horrible.

For instance, 2015 Prizm Draft Picks or Collegiate Draft cases were like $400-$500, maybe even $300. There is literally nothing of note in this product but cases are $1800 for draft picks and $1200 for collegiate.

A 2015 Prizm case is $4800. Like this stuff should be under $1k.

2013 Prizm NFL Hobby was literally $19.95/box at one point. Now ~$800/box on eBay and if Blowout had any they would probably be 1k

The emergence of Travis Kelce had a little something to do with that but your point is still valid.

2013 prizm nfl was a terrible product. Kelce is the only good thing from that class.

It seems the big card distributors kind of missed out on all the money that pumped in during the pandemic and changed the industry and they're being way more conservative.

See it’s now $899

Card distributors who have been here a min have printed money and are still printing money. All my LCS guys who had been in the business for a decade plus rolled in money the last 4-5 years and most still are. They still can’t keep stuff on the shelves. And even if their margins are low on boxes they’re probably selling $5-7k a day on a slow day.

The amount of money being thrown around in this hobby is still ludicrous. Blowout knows that. As people begin to be priced out of 2026 product and beyond the older (cheaper) stuff they used to blowout via these sales will start to move.

Hell, look at me. I spent $900 on a case of 2014 Topps Chrome mini football! Last year that would have felt insane, but when a 2025 Chrome basketball hobby box is $850 (IF you can get it for that) suddenly buying an old case like that becomes a bargain.
