Law enforcement has bigger fish to fry.....if they don't have the budget or willpower to go after Wall Street big-wigs and members of Congress for insider trading, you think they're going to care about the shilling of sports cards????

Probably 99% of all economic/financial crimes are ignored by law enforcement these days.

As to your second question, there are a LOT of dumb consumers, both in the hobby and in general. Financial literacy is non-existent in the USA, and scammers are everywhere.

People have been waiting a long time for the FBI to come crashing through the windows and bust the bad guys. They’ll be waiting long after we’re all dead.

Obviously word spread, and it's just such a prevalent scammy issue in the hobby. This totally brings into question any comps set recently.
How much you want to bet that the same thing is going on with wax prices on eBay? The big distributors have every incentive for pre-release prices on eBay to be high. They can make too much money by selling wax at double the Topps presale prices. If they buy a a few boxes at ridiculously high buy it now prices on eBay, see Topps chrome basketball, then that becomes the market price. When the big distributors then sell all of the product Topps gives them for close to that price, they make a killing. All it takes is 5 boxes to go at an inflated price for that scheme to work. Moral of the story: Topps’ distribution scheme is ripe to fleece consumers when they sell most of their product to a few people. I’m not saying it’s happening, but it certainly would be easy to make happen given Topps’ method for product distribution.

Being brand new to the hobby, or rekindling a former passion, and pursuing a purchase on eBay should not make you a fool though. Somebody should stick up for the lambs that are being led to slaughter.

We know better. Most people don't.

If correct, it sounds like Rick might be providing a response later today.

I spoke with Probstein on the phone this morning, he said there will be an announcement by 4PM or so. In the meantime it feels kinda gross, but since I made a video about it last week, I do need to tie up those loose ends for those who watched my original video. As I said above, it’s just gross/sad and I leave it realizing I need to be more cynical in life than I am as a fairly cynical person.

Nothing said on the phone call was revelatory I don’t think. I asked all the questions I thought to ask, and no answer surprised me that much. This will be forgotten in 6 months by the hobby at large imo. But who knows maybe the FBI or whomever digs around and in a few years we hear some major update. Those things are generally slow though I think.

These guys are so ignorant. You can have a good experience with someone and they can still be a scammer. Both can be true. Smh...

Holy crap!!! So the excuse is this were just "test accounts." I hope that eBay has one bit of integrity and refuses him back. However, they are probably ready to roll out the red carpet for him.

I love this quote from the article:

“The shutdown of snype is being executed through a careful process that places user safety and digital security at the forefront. We are following a methodical wind-down plan designed to ensure stability and clarity at every step.”

There has been zero communication from them since the site shutdown - not even a simple email - and we are to believe that there will be "clarity" at every step. LOL

And just based on how badly the site was built to begin with who would believe they have any clue how to shut down the website securely...

Well, there's not any data left to get stolen.

That being said, there’s still a decent chance he returns to eBay at some point if he’s never able to figure out how to run an auction website on his own.
Wow… I can admit when I was wrong, and I was massively off on this one!

What was the final count? 8 days?

Really? Did you sign up for SNYPE? If so, and you used the same email and password for both platforms, the answer is yes. He still hasn't notified users about the data theft.

Yes my 25+ year old ebay account was stolen but no I didn't have a Snype account. It was either an ebay breach or Gixen, those are the only two places with this password. I got my account back but what a nightmare to do so since it's nearly impossible to get anyone at ebay on the phone when you can't log into your own account. They try to AI everything so it just wants to run you in circles.

There are constant data breaches nowadays -- there is a large black market for it. That's why two-factor authentication is so important. Ebay has two-factor authentication, so maybe someone socially engineered customer support into resetting your login information.

I didn't have two-way set up.

I got my account back and about an hour ago they took it over again. I currently have it back yet again and set up two-way authentication. Now I'm worried about my Gixen not working.

Is their studio still operating normally? I sent three batches of cards to them for auction on eBay, but I haven't received the payment yet. They haven't responded to my emails for the past week either.

I am actually surprised eBay let him back on. They must really be hurting for revenue.

They had a chance to do something wild, considering he was trying to directly compete with their slice of the sports cards market.
