I haven't shipped anything home from COMC since last spring...but did something happen to shipping costs in the last six months?

My son is into Snorlax from Pokemon, so I suggested using COMC to maybe round up some of the low end cards on his want list. He picked up 41 cards and we made sure he was in simplified mode - I even checked after the fact and it shows no additional shipping when you look in inventory.

When he went to look at shipping home, it wants $15.99 ($5.99 + $10.00) which means he's paying another quarter on top of the quarter he already paid in simplified mode. Is that the new cost?

Yes. They now add a 25 cent per card surcharge to most shipments, above and beyond the 25 cent handling fee they charge for most cards.

However, they also have a "bulk shipping" option, where you can pay a flat $19.99 box fee to ship up to 500 cards (this doesn't include the handling fee, but your son already paid that when he purchased in Simplified Shipping Mode).

If you're not in simplified mode, then it costs about $144.75 for postage and handling on 500 cards, or about 29 cents per card above the base cost.

If you're already paying $15.99 box fee for 41 cards, it might be worthwhile to add another 459 cards to the shipment, which will cost an additional $4 (plus the base price and handling fee of the 459 cards).

COMC will be having Black Friday promotions the week of Thanksgiving plus Cyber Monday. It might be worth waiting for that. However, it is unlikely the cards will arrive before Christmas (or possibly even New Year's Day) if you choose that option.

My COMC submission says it was delivered around noon today, do they send out a confirmation of retrieval?

They sometimes take a few days after the items arrive before they scan the package in to their system. When they do, there will be a Processing Status box on the lower right portion of My Dashboard.

It will say "5% completed" or something to that effect. This is because there are around 20 different processes, and acknowledging the package has arrived is the first process. The 5% means 5% of the processes are 100% completed. It does not mean that 5% of the cards are 100% processed.

If you selected the 16 week option, it's likely that cards will trickle in here and there before the 16 week deadline. If you selected a 2 week or 1 week option, then it's likely that there will be more clumps. Clumps are usually in the form of attributes, such as vintage vs non vintage, or signed, or memorabilia, or numbered, or by sport or set.

When the cards first hit your account, it's likely that some will say "Item Stored Remotely". During COVID, they started processing cards outside the warehouse, and they still do this much of the time. The "Item Stored Remotely" tag will disappear after a few days.

BTW, the "16 weeks" or "2 weeks" or "1 week" processing time starts when they scan your package in, not when your package actually arrived. So there are some perverse incentives baked into the system for them to drag their feet a little if they're behind on processing. If you call them, and actually manage to reach a human being, they'll tell you "well it says delivered so it must have been delivered". This can be nerve-wracking, particularly if you've never sent a package before, or if it's a high dollar package. So it's best to be mentally prepared.

Probably should have waited…but just not gonna deal with it. Especially if it requires emailing their CS email, which takes forever to get a response if you even get one. I wouldn’t want to lose the auction if it goes past the window to pay.

So I just bought it on eBay. I do wonder about that shipping thing though- the card was over $350, yet the only listed shipping was $2.99 eBay standard enevelope (for < $20). Only shipping listed and no way to change it. I was under the impression comc charges $5.99 shipping for a card of that price. I just said heck with it and paid (with the $2.99 shipping)…hopefully comc will just eat it vs canceling the sale or something.

At what point should I put store credit in to cover the processing? As cards are slowly processed one by one, does your store credit just go into the negative until you pay it off? Just wondering given the 4 month turnaround time.

Last year Comc for Black Friday Comc did $5 credit for every $100 spent. Is there nothing on the buy side this year or have I just missed or not seen it yet?

A: Processing fees are charged whenever a deposit (full or partial) of cards is ready to be made into your account inventory. If a processing charge results in a negative account balance, the deposit is placed on hold, the due dates of all pending submissions are postponed by one day, and an email is sent notifying the customer of insufficient funds. Subsequently funding the account to $0.00 or greater will allow the pending deposits to be completed and any submissions on hold to resume processing within a few hours.

Since processing fees are required to be paid before the items are deposited, it's not uncommon for a first-time consignor to incur a negative balance initially as they "get the ball rolling". As long as your items sell for more than the per-item processing fee, your consignments will turn a profit. You can request that a positive account balance be sent to you in the form of a cash-out, or you keep those profits to purchase further cards on COMC or pay for the processing of future submissions.
So if you don't have any balance in there right now there's no reason to add any until they actually process stuff. The worst case delays it by a day.

Each year it appears the buyer side gets less and less.

There is not a ton of incentive to offer rebates with the way the market is moving. They can’t keep up as it is.

You are right there. Just hard to believe what some cards are going for. I'm talking about the commons and what I would think was cheap cards and not a lot of interest in them.

I went to a show a couple of weekends ago. Frist time in a long time. Meet 2 dealers that I have not seen in 4 or 5 years. Only dealers that are still in the game 5 years later that I have purchased from. We had a good laugh over the $5 and $2 boxes that was the $.50 and $.25 boxes back then. I could not believe seeing thousands of dollars being handed over or lying on the table being counted out.

One of the dealers said "That is the way it is now. We have to live with it or get out of the game." That goes for COMC also.

Can’t seem to do cashouts right now because the United States isn’t an approved country according to Tipalti via COMC’s payment info page.

There always some sort of issue with COMC these days.. I emailed CS but won’t hear back for maybe 4 days if at all.

Not to mention I’ve been having all sorts of issues with COMC’s basic functions simply not existing at random times (mark cards to ship or auction, signing off, inventory page links) and just seeing “-“ in their place, even the shopping cart. I have to mess with my security parameters to get random things to work.. why is that? It’s been going on for about a week now.

I do however get hit over the head with COMC takeover ads and links for “gem night” or whatever it is.

Just really frustrated with COMC this year.. but hey, vote on COMC for “2025 best marketplace” lmao

Anyone got any experience with straight to grading recently? I have some value bulk due 11/17/2025 and just wondering if I’ll see them this year lol.

And for what it’s worth, I’m a relatively new user and COMC has been great apart from the slow free slabs, but I only sent low value things I was in no rush for. Still, 4 months is a bit of a joke!

Same here. Won't let me cashout in the USA with Paypal. Never had a problem with this feature in the past outside of the processer trying to take more than they should on one occasion. I haven't sent anything in to COMC since they ended the premier account program and opened the "pilot program" which I haven't seen anything about since enrolling 3-4 weeks ago. My confidence in this company is waning - which is too bad, because I have a lot of cards there currently....

I am going to ask them through email and on social media. It's one thing to have a garbage website, but it's another to not allow us to cash out and give an update on that issue. They should have sent an email about this.

UPDATE 9:56 AM CT: The one thing they have been doing well is responding from their premier support email. They told me they are working on the issure with Tipalti. No details yet on the new Pilot progam.

Another item on the long list of problems with COMC. I'm surprised people still defend them on here.

My main frustration, same as always, is that this could/should be a great company. The people running it simply do an awful job.

I agree with you. They used to be great years ago. Slowly, they have fallen off.

Is COMC slow on purpose or are they just "overwhelmed" with cards?

Requested shipment on 11/5 for about ~10 cards, expected shipping on 11/18. Does it really take that long to get one guy to grab the cards? Lol.
