Default Insuring your collection?

Lately I’ve been seeing a ton of theft in shipping. That got me thinking about the insurance we put on our collections.

I use a collectible insurance company. I wanted to ask. What insurance do you use if any? And have you ever had to file a claim? If so, how did it go? Will post this in the baseball section too.

I should be insuring with a FAJ insurer (Fine arts, Jewelry, Collectibles) policy, but i don't really have too much of value.

I know Chubb have specific policies for this. If i had a high end collection, i would definitely be getting my schedule of assets insured.

You can do all this through a regular insurance agency. Don’t get it twisted

Sit down with them, not on the phone, and explain it. It’s super easy

I send my agent my PSA registry, which happens to be my PC, once a quarter. It’s not difficult

Go sit it an office. They will cover it

Don’t let anyone sell you that they wont. They will

I just worry about limits off the shelf. You don't want to be overinsured for your collection and then underinsured when there is a low sublimit for each and every loss

if you don't have cards worth 5 figures I wouldn't say it is worth it

honestly a bank deposit box is a better idea for high end cards than insuring

Whoever you use for your homeowners insurance

In person is the key

Not the company

I do too. I just want to hear stories of those who have had to use them when filing a claim

I've done every avenue when it comes to insuring/storing my collection - vault, insurance, bank deposit box.

The best, IMO, is a safety deposit box at your bank. Not every branch has one anymore, and your valuables are not "insured," but unless there's a natural disaster that takes out the bank, it's as secure as you can get.

I didn't like not having my cards vaulted because I couldn't easily (and for free) check them out. Plus, getting them out of the vault was stupid expensive.

The insurance option sounds great, but it's too expensive considering a SDB is about $100 a year or less.

Deposit boxes are going the way of the dodo though. Harder to find a bank that still offers them each passing year.

Why not just get a fireproof safe?

Unless you’re talking a 6 figure collection I have no idea why you would insure it
