Probably the reason they let Loaisiga go, worth taking a chance.

I'm having a hard time coming up with an ideal (but still realistic) offseason plan. The FA market is so shallow and Yanks prospect capital isn't much better.

I prefer Tucker over Bellinger if they are set to get long-term contracts.. that would just mean that the Yanks would have to get more CF depth (not named Trent Grisham). I was hoping that the White Sox weren't going to pick up the $20m option of Luis Robert since he has been hurt and really bad offensively, but they did so that option is gone unless you trade for him. A reunion with Harrison Bader wouldn't be the worst thing as long as its a cheap 1-year deal. He still provides great defense in CF and had an okay year at the plate. So, if the outfield ends up being Judge-Tucker-Jasson-Jones-Bader, I think I'm good with that. I would still want Judge to start learning some 1B... or maybe Tucker... or Jones?

Next, I think the Yanks should go after Tatsuya Imai. To be completely honest, I had no idea who he was until a few weeks ago when there were rumblings teasing his posting. He throws hard and has a lot of pitches. Obviously other teams are going to want to get him like the Dodgers or the Mets so we will have to see if it's even worth the time and effort. However, with Cole and Rodon not ready for Opening Day, the rotation is going to need some help as Will Warren is going to start as the #4 and then who knows about #5. On the same note, I can't see the other Japanese prospect, Murakami, being a fit on this team. He's not a good defender wherever he is and looks to struggle against harder velos.

Last note is SS depth. Volpe will come back sometime in the summer, unfortunately, and the Yankees' media machine is already spinning it like the injury hindered his performance in some way and he's going to come back as the starter when it's time. In the meantime, Caballero is the only true SS on the roster and if he goes down before Volpe can come back, then the Yankees are SOL. There's Bo Bichette...... however, I just don't believe the Yanks are interested (which sucks). Instead, perhaps they could trade for Ezequiel Tovar. The Rox finally have new leadership and could maybe be looking to offload some money tied up from the old regime. The contract is backloaded but only hits for $9m on the luxury tax through the 2030 season when he's only 28. He's a great defender and there's potential in the bat if you can get him away from Colorado. He does need to improve his plate discipline, though.

TL;DR: Yanks should get Tucker, Bader, Imai, and Tovar.

Word is Hal wants to keep payroll under 300M so they probably don't make any big splashes. Hal wants a salary cap as well. Unless he sells to the Saudis we aren't going to be run like the Dodgers.

What a waste of one of the greatest franchises in sports history.

Bo Bichette is telling friends that if he can't stay with the Blue Jays, he wants to play in New York in "the immediate future."

Always a risk with Nepo babies. Better for teams to just be sold after owner dies.

Spencer Jones had a 36% K rate in AAA, he'd by Joey Gallo in the majors. Lombard hit .215 in AA. Neither is ready to be an every day player.

If that's a hard cap he sets for Cashman, then we might as well throw in towel now. As constructed, the Yankees aren't good enough. The Yankees are worth ~$8B and have an annual revenue of $700m+. If they can't make a profit then that's just bad business.

I doubt that the new CBA will result in a cap. Personally, I think that would be a hard stop for the players.

Only if they pass on Tucker...that's 2 major contracts added when Hale is messaging a $300 MIL cap.

If somehow they kept Cody, added Tucker/Bo, they would be contenders with the pitching they will have

We will never win another championship until Hal and Cashman have no part of the team. Keeping a payroll below $300M while the team across town and the team that beat us last year will pay whatever to be at the top.

I would take Imai, but another bat is needed. I think Bichette would really add that leadoff type hitter we need so desperately, despite the defense.

If there’s a self-imposed payroll ceiling, then the Yankees need to heavily invest in scouting. They’ve been bad at scouting for a long time now.

They could always save money by firing the analytics team. Those guys are obviously awful.

Well, the Yankees fired their international scouting director.

What's all this hoopla about Cashman and Boone not going to the GM meetings? When was the last time they didn't go?

The post is reporting that something not related to baseball prevented him from attending. I'm not sure if Boone has ever gone since he's not a GM. According to another article I found, assistant GM Michael Fishman, VP of player development Kevin Reese, and director of baseball operations Matt Ferry are all there.

Funny 'cause in an interview with the press in TOR he said "I want to play my career with the Jays and Vladdy".

Yes, staying with the Jays is his first choice. If they don't want to sign him, he told friends he wants to play in New York.

I see now we're in the phase of stupid articles saying the yankees are interested in players their agents are trying to get the maximum salaries.
