Default Site for commons

I used to frequent these forums religiously back in 2016-2018. Quit collecting til recently.
Question for the group: There used to be a site to list your commons for cheap for others to complete their sets. Is that site still active, or is there any place to get commons cheap? I need a few for 2025 Topps Holiday for me, and some 2022/23 Topps Match Attax soccer for my kids.

Try COMC.
Stands for check out my cards. Nice place for lower end cards.

I believe SportLots is what you're remembering and it is still active (and with the same early internet GeoCities aesthetic). CardBarrel (formerly Just Commons) also fills this niche but is just one guy and not a marketplace with multiple sellers.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

I remember COMC, doubt they will have commons on there.

I'm a Phillies fan and I was collecting Mike Schmidt. I remember going on this site and buying base and oddball cards for next to nothing.

Are there still collectors completing sets on here? Used to be multiple users posting set needs, others sending the commons needed in PWE. I know the collecting scene has changed dramatically since COVID. Wish I still had all the graded cards I sold before then.

I think shipping cost makes it prohibitive to collect low dollar cards unless you find someone with bulk of what you want. In theory, that’s what makes COMC attractive, but it’s had issues with slow shipping lately.

Still do a set of Heritage, Allen & Ginter, and Allen & Ginter X each year. Also the occasional one off….

OP, do sport lots. Just find a seller that has everything you need so you are only paying shipping once. Occasionally you can find an eBay seller as well.

Comc is too expensive for low end commons as I believe the minimum is like $0.40 a card while sports lots is $0.18.

It was $0.50 per card, but just got raised to $0.65, so COMC is not a place for commons. I'm not aware of a lot option.

You may be thinking of the “sticky” collectors thread that is still active in the BO baseball buy/sell/trade forum. I used it from 2014-2017 when I was collecting topps heritage and it was reasonably active with people helping each other finishing base and master sets. It looks like it’s slowed to a trickle, but it’s still active. Couldn’t hurt to try.

The hobby has devolved into this in 2025 - you collect Shohei Ohtani only or else your collection sucks.

Agree, Sportlots for filling out complete sets is the right way. Also look for sellers who ship to the "box" central shipping hub for free. Those are a good way to combine shipping kind of like getting a COMC mailday package.

Cheapest card on COMC is like 26 cents plus like $20 now to ship a bulk order home. But most commons on COMC are only that price if they were previously Upper Deck ePack Marvel, hockey, nonsports, Goodwin Champions, etc.

The set collectors thread here is good for popular sets like heritage, flagship, etc. I’ve been able to complete my sets that way.

There's a site called BuySportsCards that's similar to Sportlots,just a different layout.

I buy all of my Yankees commons and cheap parallels and inserts from COMC.

I do about 3 sets a year; maybe 4 if you throw in Topps Holiday. It's much easier to just buy a complete set on E-bay.

Sportlots "Pick A Seller....it's the easiest way that I have found. It highlights the number of that card/player that they have listed next to their name.

I started doing this back in January. It has been great for getting rid of the excess cards I have, and forcing me to get them organized. Still a long way off from getting all of my cards organized, but have been able to complete some sets that have just been sitting 50%-75% complete for years.

I'm biased because they're my local shop, but Jim & Steve's is a great source for filling your set needs.

If you google "Jim and Steve's Beckett" you'll find their Beckett marketplace store where they have nearly 1,500,000 unique cards for sale.
