Enters age 27 season with 42 WAR. So probably the best player in the NL that isnt Ohtani.

That probably won’t happen, he isn’t a likable player and has serious attitude issues. If blowout members weren’t holding his cards as an investment this thread would be much less active.

Right. Nothing to do with the fact that the guy is probably the third best player in the game.

I collected Juan Soto in the past and have kept all my cards. Soto is going to put up some fantastic career numbers and will be in the HOF. So my answer was I would like him to be more hobby relevant than he is now. At this point he looks like he will have a career numbers similar to Miguel Cabrera. Since the hobby does not care that much about Cabrera I am not sure it will care too much about Soto. He is a great player, but at this point he does not move the hobby needle like Ohtani or Judge. And I am not sure if he ever will.

So I go back to my answer to your question. I would like the hobby to care about him like it did in 2020/2021.

I like his attitude a lot. Did you see the way he played the game of baseball last year?! Outstanding!

To move his hobby needle forward, a 60+ hr season (because his main forte is offense) leading the Mets to World Series victory/championship ring.

What do you put the odds of something like this happening...10%?

He did start running a lot more this season, especially as he got closer to 40...2 SBs shy of a 40-40 season. If he can amp that up to a 50-50 season and pair with a championship ring where he was instrumental in the World Series, that would move the needle.

Maybe after he does this he can start pitching soon too!

He will be entering his age 27 season, having just finished his age 26 season with a career high 43 hrs. It's reasonable that he can increase his hr totals barring injuries...but there is only so much one individual can do...the team has to rise up somehow too, get to the World Series and win it. Do you believe the Mets can get better for 2026?

Which is why his low prices baffles me.

So I go back to my answer to your question. I would like the hobby to care about him like it did in 2020/2021.

For me, the things that cripple his being a hobby icon are:

- Yes, an amazing postseason/WS performance in 2019, BUT that was so long ago that ADHD-attitude for hobbyists forget how good he was so young.

- Nats, Padres, Yankees, Mets… in 7 years has been on 4 teams. Reminds me of Gaylord Perry in an Old Timers game when he wore a jersey with a bunch of different team names on it. He hasn’t been anywhere long enough to solidify a real fan following and appears to have a mercenary persona. Staying in NY with Mets could help.

-Zero MVPs. He and Acuna were supposed to have 3-4 rings each by now, as well as battle it out Wiliiams/DiMaggio for NL MVP supremacy. Acuna has 1 MVP and 1 ring, albeit he didn’t play that postseason or WS.

-He has no iconic regular season moments that elevate him to legendary status.
Judge, Ohtani, Acuna, Raleigh more recently… if Soto were to be a late contender for a Triple Crown or HR record it would definitely do that, but for now, while he is consistently an amazing player, he has been the Jose Ramirez of the NL (Both HOFers by the way).

Jose Ramirez of the N.L. is a pretty bad take, lol.

Right. He only helped lead the Nationals to an improbable World Series against your trash can banging cheaters in 2019 as a 20 year old.

His career WS slash is .326/.473/.674 with 4 HR and 8 RBI. Beats Ohtani and Judge in every category, and bests the zeros that Acuna and Raleigh have put up.

His prices were bonkers during Covid. Play the game don’t let the game play you.

100% agree and I actually mentioned that WS.
Since then hobbyists moved on from him because he did that so early in his career, and this hobby had become more centered around “what about now” vs long term legacy. I think Soto is amazing and one of the best pure hitters in the game. I hope he gets back to the top in terms of hobby status.
Severely undervalued
