If they get another 4 balls, then they are awarded 2nd base, but can refuse the free pass again. Another 4 balls, then they get 3rd, etc.

Ghost runner is in place (and should only be in place if at all) for the regular season because league needs to fit games into time periods for the network. An unfortunate existence. Game goes extra innings and I get to look at green grass and be outside longer, love it.

I believe it is also so the owners do not have to pay the employees (ushers, ticket takers, security) extra money for the day with costs rising. Bastards.

They sure did figure out it was hurting their income with beer sales ending in the 7th and didn't take them long to make it the 8th. Smart Bastards.

I agree, but they are talking to the casual or occasional watcher who may not know how special this run has been. To the rest of us, it seems like overkill.
