Bowman chrome #1 prices from base to numbered refractors pricing does not make sense to me at all...even in this market. So many other great Ohtani RC can be had for a fraction of the price.

Yea, maybe so. BUT, even while Griffey has cheaper rookies, the UD is the rookie for him and people continue to push that one up. The BC is THE rookie for Ohtani and people tend to want THE rookie.

Agreed. In the age of parallels—which enables more people to own a copy—and the desire for a hitting image Ohtani rookie, Bowman Chrome is THE rookie. Could that change? I think it’s unlikely. However, we can expect a retracement in prices, though I wouldn’t say how long it will last.

The older (presumably vintage) collectors are coming in and buying flagship parallels. Some cards have nearly doubled. This is why I am saying things can change fast. Long live the paper!d

I totally get wanting THE RC card. When UD came out in 1989 it was like nothing else at the time. They were "high end" with a hologram compared to topps, fleer, score etc. So perfectly logical it would be THE RC to collect despite the astronomical print run.

In Ohtani's case he does not have a bowman chrome 1st which in normally the go to prospect card. Now if his 2017 Bowman chrome mega BCP-31 was THE card I would totally understand. It is his first bowman prospect card.

The fact that the Bowman Chrome #1 has become the "IT" card I think has a lot to do with people deciding because he does not have a Bowman Chrome 1st they will use this card as a substitute. To me this is not as logical.

The market has spoken. I am just in the minority that think in this case the market is irrational.

Clearly Bowman chrome is more popular than Topps finest. 2018 Topps finest also has a hitting image similar to BC #1, but sells for a fraction.

Interestingly the Bowman chrome image variation has also blown up in price. The 2018 bowman platinum has virtually the same image of Ohtani holding a bag and again sells for a fraction of the price.

I know I am not going to win this argument. It is a popularity contest...and Bowman chrome #1 has won the contest.

the thing to keep in mind about Flagship is that it
has stretched all the way back to 1952, no breaks.

the oldheads that are entering the Ohtani market
know Flagship very well. Hell, i would venture to
guess that most of them dont even have the 1952
#311 yet.

Flagship is safe and readily available for most.

his 2018 Finest is the same airbrushed image that
they used on his 2018 Topps Team Set Blister Pack

his 2018 Bowmans Best is a nice alternative but for
some reason Best is not taken seriously

Bowman Chrome is fine for Draft autos, but RCs belong to Topps flagship and Chrome -- and those are criminally undervalued compared to this.
