It will be an important game for Purdy Thursday in LA. He needs to play well.

Some of the takes here are head scratching.

I’m questioning reality.

Called it when he signed the extension. He's overpaid mid QB who can only perform when his team is on full strength

We aren't winning anything without Kittle and Aiyuk. Unfortunately, I'm expecting a pretty one sided game Thursday night with this roster.

There is still the possibility of some growth but it needs to happen in the next couple of years.

Otherwise he will fall into the Kirk Cousins category.

Pearsall's knee acting up again.

food for thought:

Mac Jones two games so far:
- One W against the 0-4 Saints, a consensus bottom 2 team this year. They barely won.
- One W against the 2-2 Cardinals, who were playing without their starting secondary and lost James Conner halfway through the game (And Marvin Harrison gifted the Niners a ton of dropped passes). They barely won. Needed a walk-off FG.

Purdy?
- Beat the Seahawks who are 3-1 and on the season have given up 8 less points while scoring 31 more points that the Niners.
- Lost to the now 3-1 Jags in a game where the Niners dropped 6-7 passes. One Int bounced off McCaffrey's hands and the strip sack at the end was an OLine breakdown. He still threw for 300+ yards and 2 TDs.

The team is without Aiyuk, Kittle, Bosa, is starting a rookie at Guard, Jennings was clearly limited, Pearsall got hurt. Special teams gave up a RARE THESE DAYS kickoff return.

here is our starting defense that gave up 150 yards on the ground. There are a lot of either 3rd string or ex-practice squad guys here:

Sam OkuayinonuDL
Jordan Elliott DL
Kalia Davis DL
Mykel Williams DE
Luke Gifford LB
Fred Warner LB
Dee Winters LB
Darrell Luter CB
Deo Lenoir DB
Jason Pinnock S
Marques Sigle S

This isn't him "not playing with The Avengers", this is him playing with the Muppet Babies.

Outside of the tipped pass int, which didn't look like a great decision, though hard to know where the ball was intended to go...

In what world are people calling for Mac Jones?

Honestly, a bit flabbergasted at the takes here. Feels like emotion over logic.

I am actually a Purdy fan.

There is a lot of logic in what was said in that post.

At the same time, the discussion isn't really whether Purdy should have won the game. It is whether Purdy is going to be Kirk Cousins or something more.

That second interception was cringe.

I'd say Kirk Cousins w/ a sprinkling of Favre Gunslinger is what he is.

I'm not sure there's an upgrade on the market or reliably in the draft. How many guys would you take over Purdy given their body of work so far? Not a lot. Even guys that were hot for a year (Stroud) have cooled off.

Mahomes, Allen, Jackson are top guys. After that? A lot of middle tier guys.

Burrow (always hurt), Herbert (underachieving), Hurts (Is he elite?), Goff (productive but one SB loss as his big moment). Do we trust these guys more than Purdy, based purely on performance?

We all agree he's overpaid, we also know the market. If we were rolling with Mac as QB #1 this year, we'd likely be looking at a 7-10 record.

yes and they were 6-9 under Purdy's last year with wins against the Jets, Seahawks, Bucs, Cowboys, Bears and Patriots. With Purdy back and how the injuries are we might be able to go maybe 8-9 but like you said its an easier schedule this year too. All just depends on when Kittle and Aiyuk are able to see the field and if they can avoid any more big injuries

You have to take into account that with $50+ million more to spend with Mac at QB, they'd be able to add depth at many positions. The dropoff (if any) would be negligible at the QB position, while the rest of the team would get better.

People in the thread complaining about Purdy is puzzling when we all watched Etienne scorch the defense the whole game.

The Niners went all in on Purdy to bring them to the promise land.

Only time can tell us if that was a wise decision or not.

I’m in the camp that predicts no.

They should have spent way less at the QB position for what they have now and used the extra money for more depth.

We’ll see!

The drop off isn’t negligible, though. It’s steep if you compare the competition this season.

What has Mac done?

And let’s say they let Purdy walk, the best QB they’ve had since… I’m not even sure the best comp? And don’t say Jimmy, Kyle didn’t trust Jimmy to throw the ball in the 2019 NFCCG. Extra spending money doesn’t mean we get Bosa’s ACL repaired or Greenlaw retained and on the field (who they would have resigned). The team was/is getting old and increasingly injury-prone.

And if Mac did play well they’d have to pay him and if they didn’t then we’re back looking at the draft.

Extra money just means we get depth. Injuries have decimated the 49ers in recent history, so I put that money into finding hidden gems that create depth on the cheap with the potential of becoming a starter. In addition, they could have dealt Brock and received additional picks for upcoming drafts or some young talent.

Some people have expressed confusion over why some of us are a bit more critical of Brock. It's simple. Once you get that payday, you better believe there are expectations that come with that. Also, after 2024, we got the opportunity to see Brock without elite players at every position, and we saw how ordinary he became. Brock is a solid QB but people start thinking he's the next Montana or Young are sorely mistaken. He's Jeff Garcia at his best.

2 int cost the game, you can talk about injuries all you want but the game is still winnable despite the injury but Turdy made them lose

Mac may actually start Thursday’s game as Brock may still be a bit injured per the Niners.

I don’t see how Mac could do any worse, even at less than full health, with that decimated lineup.

yep, that second int from Purdy was one of the worst I've ever seen. I understand he beat the odds from last person drafted to nfl qb starter but now the bar has been raised since he's been paid 50m++. Can you name someone worse than him that's paid that much? Probably only Tua and we know what people thought of that contract

I'm a bigger Purdy-contract hater than most, but replays showed the 2nd INT was tipped at the line.

We gave up 4 turnovers and a special teams touchdown and only lost by 5.

That said, this team still isn't going anywhere in the playoffs. I'd rather we go 5-12 and get a high pick than 10-7 and lose in the 1st rd of playoffs.

No Bosa -- no QB hits:

Quote:
The 49ers did not record a hit on the quarterback for the first time since 2015. This is well before Bosa was even drafted. Still, it shows just where the unit is without him.
https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/wh...hout-nick-bosa

It's like having your nuts ripped off and expected to still perform.

you know what's crazy?

Purdy has a better career completion percentage, yards per attempt, yards per game and QB rating than Josh Allen.

And Lamar deserved the MVP over Allen.
