Yeah, because that's why it took a great home run hitter like Judge, 6 games to get #62 after tying Maris at 61.

The only players getting meatballs to hit homeruns are Ohtani and Raleigh. Look at how many times Judge is intentionally walked or pitched around for a walk.

There's no meaningful difference between 2025 Ohtani/Judge/Raleigh meatball percentage. Savant has their "heart" percentage at 25/25/24% respectively. All 3 get pitched around, Judge is by far the most patient and the most efficient at converting meatballs into runs.

I'd say Cal is the least pitched around of the 3.

Judge: 117 walks, 32 intentional
Ohtani: 107 walks, 20 intentional
Raleigh: 95 walks, 16 intentional

Judge fell into a real funk towards the end, there was so much buzz at the time, watching his last few games I assure you the Rangers pitchers were giving him meatballs down the middle cuz they wanted him to get it, I am not talking about the other 61

First "half" was 96 games. First "half", Raleigh played 94 games, hit 38 HR. One HR every 2.47 games.
Second "half" is 66 games. Second "half", Raleigh has played 59 games, hit 20 HR. One HR every 2.95 games.

38 vs. 20 looks like a dramatic drop off. It sounds like his rate has dropped in half. But it hasn't been that all.

Bwahahaha I’ll still be here. Been here 6 years before you.

Funny a Mariner fan posts in mariners threads and for the most part that’s where I’d stay. Yet we got you one of those guys that comes to other players threads cause for some reason you feel you need to. Sorry bud but neither you or I have a MVP vote and neither of our opinions matter to anybody. Was just posting my thoughts in mariners thread why cal is my mvp

Have a great day

Seattle has 6 games remaining. He is potentially facing these starting pitchers:
  • McCade Brown (R)
  • Tanner Gordon (R)
  • Bradley Blalock (R)
  • Clayton Kershaw (L)
  • Tyler Glasnow (R)
  • Emmet Sheehan (R)

He already broke the record for HR by a primary catcher. By my count using Fangraphs game logs, he has 11 as a DH and 47 as a Catcher. Javy Lopez hit 42 as a C in '03. So Raleigh has the record for Catcher no matter how you slice it.

He already broke the record for most HR in a season by a switch hitter (Mickey Mantle)

He already broke the team record for HR in a season. (Ken Griffey Jr.)

M's are leading the west by 3 games with 6 to play.

He still needs to do MORE?

You may not realize it, but the hobby existed before Blowout Forums. But gl to you and your JRod stash. And its Mantles not Megas, but good try.

lol 11,000 posts that’s 10x the amount of posts I have done in six more years of being here. Jeez that’s like at least 3 posts a day. It’s ok to take a break from posting online to strangers Knew you were one of those guys you love to talk and think people care what you say. And get those sausage fingers out of here no one wants to look that those. Mantle can stay though cause that’s relevant to thread since cal just broke his record lmao

Have a great day

To be more precise:

1st half: 10.97 HR rate (PA/HR)
2nd half: 13.05 HR rate

HR total over 700 PA (he's on track for that amount):
1st half HR rate: 63 HR
2nd half HR rate: 53 HR

Nope, as a Rangers fan their pitching just sucked that much.

Absolutely amazing season by cal MVP in my book and I have a feeling it might not just be my book. That Fwar is getting real close again and I don’t care about b war in this situation as bwar doesn’t factor in pitch framing for catchers and that’s why there is such a big difference in the two wars. Cal squats behind that plate most nights takes foul balls off his neck thighs bat swings clip him. He goes to hitting meetings starter pitching meeting bull pen meetings. He plays dang near everyday always available. There was a reason why the record was 48 for catchers because the job is the most demanding in baseball and Cal has shattered it. If the mariners win the division for the first time in a quarter century and Cal leads them into the playoffs with a bye all while hitting 60 HRs he will be the MVP and I will be here for the absolute meltdown of blowout
His crazy-high home run total this season is in large part because A) he is an extreme fly-ball hitter, with the highest fly-ball rate (57.6%) among qualified hitters in MLB this season; which explains his mediocre batting average (tied for 96th highest out of a 144 qualified). And because B), he's been lucky with the amount of his fly-balls landing in the stands, as his HR-xHR differential is the highest in MLB at +8.4 -- this means his home run total this season has been a fluke to a certain degree. Salvador Perez had a xHR of 50.4 in 2021, compared to 49.6 for Raleigh this season.

Raleigh is in the 17th percentile in sprint speed this season -- there is no way he'd be playing in the outfield. It is 1B or DH. He's hit .221/.318/.507 at DH this season, so there might be some adjustment needed.

The lower walk rate is because Raleigh chases more pitches out of the zone and swings at more pitches overall:

Raleigh: 31.2% chase rate; 51.4% swing rate; 46.2% strike-zone rate
Judge: 22.8% chase rate; 43.9% swing rate; 47.5% strike-zone rate

Judge has gotten just about as many "meatball" pitches as Raleigh:

Raleigh: 0.97 meatballs per PA (658 meatballs / 678 PA)
Judge: 0.95 meatballs per PA (622 meatballs / 652 PA)
