Default Perks of living in the South West

Had to perform an eviction today. Moved from front porch to the backyard.

3rd one we have had since we moved in 14yts ago.

All 3 are Black Widows. The lighter colored one was the smallest, either a juvenile or a small male.

Got bit by a black widow about 6 years ago. I was camping and got up early to come back to town to work. I guess it was in my shirt when I picked it up. Got me on the finger. Got a nasty, swollen black blister on my finger and was sick for about a week.

You ain’t lying. I got bit by a scorpion about 8 years ago in the middle of a moving day- big painful welt but no biggie, finished the move. About 18 years ago I got bit on the leg by a black widow while in bed, within an hour all my muscles started cramping and had difficulty breathing. Drove to the hospital immediately and was eventually knocked out and given a buttload of antivenin. When I woke up like 5-6 hours later Doc said I got an incredibly large amount of venom and could have even died! And I was about 260lbs at the time. It took about a month to get my strength back.
Those things are no joke

Maybe ten years ago, I had to clear some stuff out of a drainage tunnel under the 101 that I knew would have probably thousands of them in it. I duct taped the cuffs of my pants and shirt and had a net over my head. Made a torch to burn them away also. Dude I was with ran out of the tunnel maybe ten feet in to it.

Was probably a juvenile that got you. The younger they are the less control they have of their venom. Adults know how to moderate, the kids not so much.

Those look amazing. Only two we had to worry about in GA were those and brown recluse.

This is a perk 49/50 states get. Only Alaska hasn't had an issue with them because of the cold.

Personally I think they are beautiful.

I get plenty of them on my back patio. I usually leave alone for a bit. they take care of other critters. But I don't want them breeding.

I've been in the PHX area for over 20 years and up until this current house I never had to deal with scorpions. it's not bad, but enough that I'm glad we are leaving in about 6 weeks to a new home where hopefully there shouldn't be any.

I've dealt with brown recluses a few times too, they are scary mo-fos

the things I see in my traps scares the hell out of me knowing that they could have been inside elsewhere

Insert burning house gif here. I don't do spiders. I do not like them.

I lived in Phoenix for like 8 years and saw black widows regularly. Not so much scorpions. Occasionally brown recluses.
