My grandparents had an outhouse at their house. They had a couple bathrooms inside but the outhouse was from the old days. They didn't live in a town but not in the middle of nowhere either. I'd use the outhouse only for #1 if I was outside, but it was spiders and other critters in there.

So squeamish! I tend to think that indoor plumbing was one of humanity's most overrated inventions - convenient, yes, but creates all kinds of problems.
