Default $100K Star Wars Card

Question: isn’t there a superfractor for every base card in the set?
What makes this one more expensive than the others?
Or are they ALL worth $100K now?

There was hype around this specific card since this drop. Whether a pump and dump scheme or legit fandom, who can tell.

Either way it’s sick that’s what people are spending on shiny cardboard.

Yeah that was just THE card everyone focused on, mainly because it looks cool.

Here's video of the "transaction." 16k to 100k? Hmmm.

Looks like Galaxy supers are getting that good ol pump. Get ready for $349.99 preorders.

So a 2021 reprint of a card from 2012 Star Wars Galaxy 7 that only features Prequel characters is the most valuable Star Wars card of all-time?

People that wear slabbed cards on chains are horrible. Thank you.

So is one (Instagram?) reel of a private deal between two buddies really all it takes these days for Topps and every wannabe influencer/breaker to blindly report an unverified $100K sale?

Is there any circumstantial evidence this card should sell for $100K?

Default $100K Star Wars Card

Sigh…nothing showcasing the nature of the modern “hobby” better than that clip above. Casually pulling out $100k cash from ALT bags for a modern manufactured scarcity card stamped 1/1 made a few years ago, in what seems to be a social media pump, with the card in a chain around the neck. Also this…

Apparently. The video ends and the money is taken back and card returned. They both get $5,000 from Topps for pumping SW cards and everyone is happy.

Lucky for Topps that this happened 2-3 weeks before they start breaking the next Chrome Star Wars release on FL.

Here's how money is easily made:

Step 1: Group of buyers (including individuals involved in the $100k deal) load up on "high-end" SW cards.
Step 2: Individuals publicize their $100k transaction for THE card
Step 3: FOMO hits regular Joe's and they compete against each other for the other (cheaper) "high-end" SW singles (and such cards shoot up in value)
Step 4: Group of buyers offload the other "high-end" cards for significant gains. Select influencers get A LOT more follows for the next pump and dump scheme.
Step 5: Rinse and repeat with a different card/product.

Sounds like the Marvel PMG hype to me.

That seller is notorious for trying to get content for Topps, I have 0 faith that is an actual sale. He had a pretty big fall from grace from a couple years back and has been trying to get back in to it a bit, what better way than to drum up an artificial sale to claim top SW sales of all time?!

I kind of knew this but it is good to see explained.

To me, the Star Wars cards issued right around each new movie specific to that movie (and now, TV shows) are essentially the only cards whose singles should ever take the "value" arc that rookie cards of popular players do in sports cards. I'd make an exception for Star Wars Galaxy, because over the course of seven sets (1993-2012), it did feature several hundred new pieces of art including early depictions of certain characters on cards in each editon's "New Visions" subset.

The problem is that none of the cards are rare, and out of all of them going back to the very start, only the singles from the original 1977 film suffer from the widespread quality control issues that make top grade copies truly scarce. (Sketches, printing plates, and autographs, I'd keep in a different category.)

Star Wars Galaxy Chrome sets are reprint sets. Some of the cards may be beautiful and even improve on the appearance of the paper card they reprint, but they are not collectible in the "first edition" sense. No modern manufactured scarcity can logically hold value above one of the nine PSA10 copies of 1977 Topps Star Wars #1 "Luke Skywalker" in PSA10 or the five copies of #7 "The Villainous Darth Vader" likewise in top grade. Heck, man, #70 "Special Mission for Artoo-Detoo!" is a one-of-kind in PSA10. Give me that over any reprint, even a 1/1.

Having a PSA card chained around your neck screams legitimate to me.

What do we REALLY think that card is worth? It IS the most popular card out of 2021 Galaxy. 20k?

That is one ugly, lame card. One would think the most valuable card would be a 1/1 autograph card of George Lucas or something if Topps produced such a thing. They could easily do it as a cut auto card, which in my opinion is a step above the sticker auto cards.

At least autograph cards and vintage cards have historical value. Paying thousands of dollars for a reprint card with artificial scarcity is lame.

They did, but it never surfaced.
