Nice card. I'm with you. Row 1 is far superior to Row 0. Row 0 just looks like a blurry washed out image. Whereas Row 1 is a very cool pattern.

I call Row 1 the shaggy carpet parallel.

Man, it's been pretty underwhelming so far with the new Bonds Topps cards. I definitely prefer his older cards to the newest stuff. Maybe it wasn't such a good thing that Bonds signed with Topps again.

Holding out hope for a 2025 Chrome Legends banger.

That said, $1k+ plus for every single auto means I'll wait. Has to be an unsustainable level, right?

Thus, I too have been going after older cards.

Any of you guys remember a huge thread that was a debate about a topps chrome patch card reprint of the 86 Topps, hand numbered to 10 if I recall? Anyone remember this?

I do -- what about it?

It was a 2001 TC '86 rookie reprint with a patch, I believe.

I'm really glad you asked! I was actually just looking for some BBases31 antics the other day for some light reading. Saw he wasn't on the member list anymore after ban and stopped looking. Now I need to look for some K13 posts in old threads.

Excellent - I'm in the minority for preferring 2000's Warp Zone design to 1999's but I'm biased since Bonds doesn't appear in the latter.

Also a fan of the combination of the retro and modern technologies in the retrofractor. Mine is pretty tore up on the back.

Thank you Alan! Yeah the Retrofractors are a lil ugly in the back. The back of mine is average, but I loved the front surface and centering.

I would have loved for Bonds to be in the 1999 Ionix set. I have most of the other guys from that set already.

Series 1 and Traded (update) were the normal kind of refractor (retrofractor back).
Series 2 had a gold front. Kinda neat!

I'm with you - these are among my very top wants as well:

2003 Topps Black #396 Barry Bonds /52
2003 Topps Black #706 Barry Bonds AW /52
2003 Topps Black #713 Barry Bonds AS /52

I have the 2005s already and here's a scan of the 2006:

Love the Topps Black parallels for giants players. Here’s a recent bonds pickup

I always loved the look of these 1999 SPx Radiance cards. The green foil is great in-hand, and reminds me of the MGM building. To me, this is peak 90s with the foil, embossing, dot-matrix serial and color scheme.

It looks like a done deal that Barry Bonds won't ever get inducted into the Hall of Fame: https://sfstandard.com/2025/08/08/ba...ame-sf-giants/

Ryne Sandberg (RIP) saying he played the game the right way in his induction speech seems to now be a rallying cry to keep players like Bonds out of the Hall of Fame.

Maybe those players who supposedly played the game the right way have a point, but it's also pretty dumb that an institution dedicated to recognizing the best players to ever play the game doesn't have a player like Bonds in it. He was just too good of a player to keep out. I mean, he didn't get suspended by MLB or have a criminal conviction or anything official. He's actively a part of the game as a hitting coach.

I liked the peel-off Mystery Finest refractors from 1999. I’m surprised they’re not worth more.
