New Month. New Pickups.

I got one of these last month, and picked up another one today. Love these oddball oversized “cards”.

Interesting mouse(mice?) cards...They must be massive, haha.

Awesome Venom "RC"... That's one of the first Marvel cards I remember seeing at the local shop in maybe 1991 or 1992... Wasn't a PSA 10 though

Another framed piece finished...few more to go

Viskratos Talisman, Martos Black Widow, Lydi Polaris, Martos Psylocke & Viskratos Mystique ... 3 of my favorite artists from the past 5-10 years. Not a huge sketch guy but I can appreciate a nice one

Two uncut sheets…and man was I searching for them for a long time (years).

94 Fleer Ultra Fatal Attractions Powerblast

94 Fleer Amazing Spiderman Gold Web

(This reveals the relative print runs. The
Walmart ones in the bottom right corner
are shortprinted 1:5 compared to the
jumbos. They are 5x rarer).

People give Leaf a lot of grief (rhyme intended), but I thought this plate was cool (even with the weird colors at the bottom)…

When OWL first hit ePack it surprisingly did really well. A lot of new users came to the site and you even found yourself interacting with mothers of certain players during trades.

COVID hit and it put a dent in OWL’s plans to have hometown events in the cities of various teams. And that pretty much put an end to the league which folded shortly thereafter.

At any rate, early on I picked London Spitfire as my OWL team and just picked up some cool numbered cards for cheap on COMC. The design in some of these cards are A++!!! Does PSA grade oversized 2-panel cards? If so I might sub some of the booklets for fun.

Here are some of my pickups from my splurge. Probably spent full priced box worth in total (maybe slightly more) for all hits…

I’m addicted to these things… just picked up another one with that sweet, sweet COMC credit! It’s like collecting with Monopoly money.

You also wonder what lawsuit happened in the past that necessitated this legal blurb on the back. Were people eating mice?

2025 San-Diego Comic Con report:

I only had a ticket for Sunday this year, so I wasn't expecting much to be left, but there turned out to be a decent selection.

I started at Cryptozoic and picked up my two Freak Brothers boxes I'd pre-ordered. I needn't have pre-ordered as they still had some for sale, (and Conan, too) but I didn't want to miss the Freaks. They accompany my every post here.

I imagine the Jurassic Park sold out. I didn't see any, but didn't ask. I did inquire about "What We Do In The Shadows". They said almost there.
I also bought the two Peanuts SDCC exclusive packs for $16 total and got the SDCC promo card with them, plus a Conan promo card.

At Upper Deck, I bought the Peacemaker exclusive set (in a single pack) and the two packs making up the DC "Goudey" retro set.
The packs were all $24.99 each, plus tax.

They still had sealed boxes of Superman Brilliants ($50) and DC Annual ($30), but I passed on them.
In previous years, I'd have at least got the Superman, but I'd say I'm going down the mountain at this point, not up.
Any promos they had, they were totally out of by Sunday, even in the morning, when I went by.

I couldn't even find the Panini booth, and if I could have, I'm sure they'd have been sold out of everything, like usual. I actually saw someone opening Panini football card packs while waiting in the Adult Swim line outside. That person had a badge, so he likely bought those packs inside.

Also took a quick pass at stopping by Cardsmiths, but there were a lot of people in that area (near the gaming side of the hall), so I couldn't find that booth my first time through the hall and I never ended up going back that far in the hall on my second pass.

Saturday Morning Cards hadn't even been noted on the numerically ordered list of booths I'd made that I wanted to stop by. (There are basically 50 parallel rows to walk down, with more booths and such perpendicular to them on each side. They were against the wall in the center of the hall. They had a nice looking display and Dave Stevens inspired Rocketeer box/pack for only $30 which felt like a good deal. I haven't even opened it, but I'm now thinking I should've bought more of them. I also got an 80's style vending machine prism sticker of Inspector Gadget as a promo.

Alex Ross promo cards. The master comics painter had 5 promo cards, one per day, with purchase. They are gorgeous foil cards using the classic 1991 Impel Marvel design. The problem is, the cheapest thing he has for sale is $40. I went ahead and got a vintage Superman #1 facsimile comic with Ross painted homage cover for $50 to at least get the final card. I was so convinced because Sunday's card happened to be Ross' version of an iconic Todd McFarlane Spider-Man cover. The other four cards were Superman, Krypto, Fantastic Four, and Doctor Doom, but this is the one I would've wanted the most, so it worked out, by dumb luck. The card is very cool, and I suspect, alone worth the 50 bucks. I'm not sure the comic itself will hold that value, but we'll see, and it's basically gravy.

The actual card, though it doesn't scan well:

And from the Ross website. Much better picture, but doesn't show the foil shimmer which is on both sides of the card:

A toy company called Greenlight Collectibles makes Garbage Pail Kids die-cast vehicles, among many other licenses. They were sold out of the GPK show exclusive, but still had the final GPK promo from the set they'd been giving out. It's a nice Adam Bomb. I asked if they had any of the earlier cards and was told they were all gone, so these are fairly limited, I would guess. I bought some "True Romance" movie-themed die-cast vehicles to support the company.

As for Topps Marvel Mint, forget it. When something is $100 retail but immediately sells for $300+ on Ebay and elsewhere, one has to jump through hoops and stand in line, and probably still have to get lucky to get them, so I didn't try, but to their credit, they were still selling boxes of them on Sunday. While the Marvel Mint were the only trading cards in that booth, they had some other stuff selling out, too, so congrats to them on clearly a great show.

There was some sort of Star Wars "alternate droids" pack-in-a-box set for sale at the little corner Topps (at least I think it was Topps) gets in the grand Star Wars pavilion. Those were sold out when I went by around noon, but I had a chance to possibly get one at the final 3pm restock, thanks to a friendly worker there who game me a return ticket for that time. Even so, we decided to leave shortly before that. I'm not generally collecting newer Star Wars cards, so it might've been a good flip, but I'll never know.

There are still a couple of actual non-sports cards dealers at Comic-Con, Mark's Non Sport Cards and Junior, to a name a few, bless 'em, especially Junior, such a great ambassador for the hobby with that Southern charm and good humor. I wish I'd had time to do more than just walk by them, but they're fighting the good fight, even as guys like me age out and generally stop buying the excellent selection they work hard to keep for their customers.

Didn't see much else, card-wise, but if you check Ebay around this time, there's usually a couple of people who hit all the nooks and crannies over the full course of the show and end up with 50 card promo lots, all different.

Nice SDCC summary… I will be on the lookout for the Peacemaker set and may pickup.

And cool Spidey from FUMS. They seem to grade well so far with the ones I elited. It will look good slabbed!

Congrats on the Alex Ross Spidey McFarlane homage, getting the one you wanted. That’s a great looking card! Not a bad price at all for it.

Nice to hear the breakdown….frankly I’m surprised there even are still actual non-sports dealers at the SDCC which seems to have moved somewhat away that collectible space. Cool to hear that.

And here was one of them, just to underscore there are plenty of promos to be had at SDCC if you're up to moving around.
I didn't get one but these 3 lots seemed to have sold pretty quickly:
