Default SPOILERS - Do Not Read!!!

I keep a complete collection of the old National Lampoon humor magazine.
The April, 1971 issue features what's believed to be the first published instance of the word "spoiler" in its modern context of being the unwanted revelations of the (often surprise) endings of popular books, movies, and TV shows.

Written by original NL Co-creator Doug Kenney (w/ fellow writer Henry Beard pictured), here's the article, itself composed of spoilers, along with the reason for its publication, which remains as relevant today as it was 54 years ago.

Enjoy (or don't), and feel free to ruin other things made after 1971 for people who haven't seen them by adding others. Remember, the life you save may be your own!

I'll start:

In "The Sixth Sense", Bruce Willis is one of the dead people the kid is seeing.

Conclave has a shocking and interesting twist that is revealed after arguments between several sexagenarians.

That's how you give away something without giving it away.

It's "The Crying Game", but with Popes.

Now that you know the ending, it's still worth a watch because the costumes are even fancier than the ones in "Wicked".

I think the guy who stabs him at the end is the actual Joker.
9/10, seen that way.

Only sort of, because if you watch until after the final credits, you find out that was a robot.

Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+

The show started off with someone who was apparently a friend of Daredevil eventually revealed as the villain, while the person initially thought to be the villain ultimately helped Daredevil to defeat the true villain, in the process earning DD's friendship (and, of course, their own spin-off series) via their change of heart.

Additionally, there was some real some promise in the first episode, but it was followed up by a bunch of filler trash episodes that kept the audience hoping it would get better, only for it all to culminate in a highly disappointing finale.

I tried quoting it verbatim, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that to grammar.

In the 2024 movie "Trap", from M. Night Shyamalan, the serial killer is able to escape ("excape" for those of you in Rio Linda) from the police handcuffs using a spoke from a bicycle wheel. Sequel incoming? If so, check in here to see how that ends as soon as I know.

For those of you immersed in the "Yellowstone" television universe, their current series "1923" went on a kill crazy rampage Sunday night offing seven recurring or regular characters including one who, I think, is the grandfather of Kevin Costner from the flagship series, and looked to perhaps star in the next series set in and called "1944".

The "1923" series (two seasons in all) culminates next week with a 2-hour finale. If they were able to kill off 7 name characters in less than an hour this week, you can bet they'll get pretty much all the rest of them next week. If you've been missing "Game of Thrones" or "Walking Dead" and their propensity to bump off even the more popular characters in savage ways, "1923" is the show for you!

Default Black Mirror Season 7

Here's the finishes for each of the new episodes of "Black Mirror" Season 7, which has just debuted this weekend on NetFlix

Common People The lady we thought to be a clone was, in fact, a clone, but the guy we thought wasn't a clone turned out to be a robot.
Bête Noire The magician was able to accomplish his tricks thanks to microscopic nanobots in the mashed potatoes served to the dinner guests
Hotel Reverie Each floor of the hotel is actually the testing ground for the beta version of a cutting edge videogame
Plaything The time machine didn't actually work as the scientist had merely suffered amnesia from an accidental blow to his head emerging from the chamber after which he'd wandered into a Civil War reenactment.
Eulogy Utilizing the advanced technology he found, Carlo is able to reopen the Chicago Pasta House to the delight of the entire village.
USS Callister: Into Infinity The dreams manufactured by the Institute can only be distributed at random, meaning the elaborate competitions to receive them are only for show.

One of the two lead characters on "The Last of Us" was killed off on last night's episode.

Which one?

Joel, played by Pedro Pascal.

I watched the first episode and it was pretty bad. So not expecting much in episode 2.

There was a lot going on in it.
It played like one of the battle episodes of "Game of Thrones".

The true title of the new Marvel movie, previously known as "Thunderbolts (asterisk)" has been revealed.
It is from now on called "Scruffy and the Dills" which is the name of the rap-ska band the heroes ultimately form so as to compete in the big Battle of the Bands contest*.

DOUBLE SPOILER in white:
*which they win, and use the prize money to save the Rec Center**

TRIPLE SPOILER in white:

**foiling Dr. Doom's evil plan in Robert Downey, Jr.'s first appearance as the character. To see this Easter egg, you have to wait 10 minutes after the final credits have rolled and the screen has gone to black and refuse the requests from two different ushers and a manager that you please leave the theater during that span. Hang tough, though. It's totally worth it.

Just saw the new "Superman" movie, it was pretty good.

Krypto the Superdog steals the show. He belongs to Superman's cousin, Supergirl, who shows up only at the end for a comedic scene, but her solo movie is already filmed and will hit screens in June 2026.

The group that will eventually become the Justice League figures prominently. It will include Superman, Metamorpho the Element Man, Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), and Hawkgirl, plus certainly others to be added later.

Corenswet is a great Clark Kent who is (super spoiler in white): also Superman! and they nailed it with Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, too. There were some things I definitely wasn't expecting including an update of the Eve Teschmacher character (played by Valerie Perrine in the original 1978 version). There was also the bold choice of repurposing a plot points (Superman intervenes in world conflicts) and a character (a clone of Superman) from what is widely considered the worst Superman movie ever, 1987's "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace", but they largely worked here.

My favorite part was when Hawkgirl flew up high with the puppet president who was in cahoots with the evil billionaire and purposely dropped him. That president was said to smell of urine within the film, so maybe that was a little on (in?) the nose, but it is what it is. The allegories don't end there as the script commented on some things that had already occurred in the real world but also astutely predicted another thing that hadn't happened yet when the script was written.

The flying sequences, always a key to Superman movies, were excellent, and they wisely employed motifs from the John Williams score for the original movies. The costume looked great. It used the logo as redesigned by illustrator Alex Ross for "Kingdom Come" based on the logo from the first adaptation of Superman comics, the Superman cartoons of the early 40's from Fleischer Studios.
