I did not expect ND to be favored at Miami in August [hot!] with a new QB.

I realize Miami has a new QB, but it's Carson Beck who is pretty good.

Game should be good, although last time they played in Miami, ranked #3, the Canes demolished them 41-8.

Of course, week 0/1 anything can happen.

I have a feeling the Irish might be in for an L in that game. That's a very tough opener for them - I'm amazed they scheduled it, frankly. Look for ND's current AD to pull a Jack Swarbrick and hand-deliver a letter to the Miami sideline canceling all future games moments before kickoff.

The conference would have scheduled that one.

Well, that's not going to fly in South Bend.

I am not entirely sure what you mean by this. When they joined the ACC in all other sports, they maintained football independence but had to agree to let the ACC schedule 5/6 games annually on a semi-rotating basis against the other ACC schools on a (mostly) home-and-home basis. They are committed through 2037.

I am sure they have some input, such as "don't give us 3 consecutive road games" but I doubt they can say "we don't want a difficult opponent on week 1".

I'm admittedly having a bit of fun at your expense - busting on ND for Swarbrick's weaselly move in 2012 backing out of the Michigan series after successive beat-downs. Yes, I know ND won in 2014 and 2018. But it's a shame they won't play in the regular season again until 2033-34.

Notre Dame is hardly alone in canceling an OOC series because of new conference affiliations.

It is the sort of thing people call "weaselly" when teams they don't like do it, but good business and a reality of the game when teams they do like do it.

I haven't seen anyone saying they're washed up. They always have top classes.

They’re not “washed up” but let’s be honest…. The dynasty is over.

I think a lot of Bama fans (myself included) thought DeBoer was going to be able to step in and run the program like Saban did. He simply got out coached a lot last year.

If he can learn from his mistakes and at least get Bama to the playoffs again, I’ll be happy.

DeBoer strikes me as too nice a guy for that job, in all honesty.

To be fair, in the world of NIL I don’t see any dynasty occurring again.

Agreed. And it showed last year when he refused to discipline McKinstry during or after the Vandy game.

Forget NIL… although that’s obviously big with the portal

The playoff alone will kill a dynasty

No one is making that gauntlet multiple times in only a few years (to make it a dynasty)

It’s too many games with Football injuries especially with College kids. There might be 22 studs but not all 100 guys are. Not going to happen

Miami would have sooooo many more titles had their been a playoff years ago [not recently though!] 1988, 1990, 2000, and of course 2002 when the ref rigged it.

Be nice to play for a Natty again. Sigh.

They're in the conversation this year, I think.

Carson Beck is so overrated. He chose Miami for a reason and I think Miami fans are going to soon realize that.

No matter the sport a single game playoff means the best team wins way less than they would in a multi game format. Dynasties in those other sports are way easier.

I know this is going to upset some people but.... I agree.

There are not many places where going to Miami is considered a step down, but leaving Georgia for "da U" is indeed a step down. I worry a lot about guys who have to take a demotion to stay on the field.

This you have backwards. The fewer the playoffs, the more likely the best team wins because they have much less of a gauntlet to run through. We had over a decade of Alabama sleepwalking their way into the playoffs where they only had to win 2 games.

No denying this guy has high upside. That said, with what they are paying him, he pretty much has to start day one and he is not even close to ready for that. It may work out in the B12 but he would have sat for at least a year had the choice been Texas (which many thought until this insane deal came to light).

This isn't softball, one guy is not going to make you a contender. If Tech isn't careful, they are going to have mass defections like the infamous 2022 Aggy class.

Everything before the 21 season may as well be referred to with the days of leather helmets. The Texas programs are having as much money dumped into their programs as the amount of black gold being drilled. Notre Dame & Michigan were seemingly in that 12-25 recruiting class but now are in that next upper tier.

If we count week 0, it’s just one month from this Wednesday….
