I think it is because yet again everyone took a hit on Wemby, and even some are recovering from Zion still. No money in the hobby after the last, most egregious ever, grab.

Cause no one wants to invest in any player of the Pacers, and barely one player on the Thunder, and none on the Celtics except maybe Tatum. And what else is there? Brunson and Edwards and Luka and Trae and Lamello and Banchero and Cunningham and Ja have all been nowhere near sniffing a ring.

I think the hobby was looser in the 1990s. I mean new faces could just emerge, because there weren't hard financial positions behind picks. Also there was less jockeying about who got included in sets and the natural talent rose.

I mean with Fleer, which was in and of itself a $1.29 a pack version of Photogenic around '98, they literally picked the best shots of the best players. Great concept, should be in a cheap popular set today.

The same company that sold 2024 Select Football International hobby like 2 weeks ago for $160 when everyone paying attention knew the immediate resale value was $600 and is now over $800 a box is trying to sell 20,000+ boxes of 2024-25 Photogenic basketball hobby for $250.

No one seems to be interested in Photogenic FOTL at secondary market prices. I doubt you can get much over $500 a box. That is even only because of where it sold out at. Last auctions for 2022-23 Photogenic are dirt cheap. That's with Banchero just signing a supermax/everyone thinks Magic are the new hot team. Jalen Williams and Chet just winning a championship. Those are selling for less than $300 a box. Far as Im aware, every 22-23 hobby product is selling at or above 24-25. Unless 24-25 has a new product breakdown like Mosaic.

Unfortunately, Panini will most likely succeed thanks to the unfortunate fallout, for everyone looking to buy now, from Rookie Royalty. Any price $175 and above Photogenic hobby would have hit the floor price on an auction.
I figured panini would price hobby higher. now people will look and say hobby is a deal compared to what fotl costs

And why would you possibly think that? This is literally the first time ever Panini has done this in this way. In 6 years of running auctions. The couple other times they had a set price it was on FOTL products seemingly no one wanted. Like Prizm Draft Picks FOTL. This has never happened on an online exclusive hobby product since they started running auctions.

I just don't understand why Panini would blatantly screw everyone on one of the few online exclusive hobby products they have when they had no issue selling damn near 100% of the available inventory of 2024 Select Football International hobby to bots for 25% of immediate resale value very recently. That product they charged $160 a box. Immediate resale was $600 and everyone following it, apparently besides for Panini, knew it.

BTW that isn't what FOTL costs now. There hasn't been a single sale on ebay or dn. People can price it however they want but without some catalyst for sales right now there is no market for FOTL at as high of a price as it is. The only offer I've seen for it was below FOTL sell out price. When Deca hobby went the entire 5 minutes at the floor and didn't come close to even selling out it was immediately up to $375-$400 with tons of people trying to buy it on the secondary market. Very obviously Photogenic FOTL only sold out as high as it did because everyone now thinks its guaranteed dollar signs to buy anything rare on auction because of Rookie Royalty. If Photogenic FOTL was auctioned a day before Royalty it would have sold out under $400 a box.

Do people even realize 2024 Photogenic Football hobby is $150 a box. That isn't a typo. There are recent sales as low as $130. I could be wrong, but I don't think, unless the configuration is way different like Mosaic, there is a single 2024-25 basketball hobby product outselling 2024 football. And we are supposed to believe that paying at a bare minimum $250 plus tax for most people is where this product would have sold at with a $100-$175 floor price? No chance in hell.

Real lack of in game photography here, which Photogenic’s whole draw. Makes no sense.

Photogenic Basketball has Curry, Luka, and Shai autos and an all around better auto checklist than the football and big dual autos. It also looks like they made around 2,600 cases of football and 2,000 cases of basketball, although it is impossible to say for sure with Panini. Photogenic Basketball also has a better brand history than the football, and it has the appeal in the international market.

I think they are fundamentally different products and I think it will do well. Last years boxes still have buy offers at $450, but they do have Wemby. I don’t pay taxes on Panini and will be happy with a 10-20% return in a matter of a few weeks, so my bar isn’t super high. Not saying it’s a $500 box but think $250 is a good buy.

Vast majority of people pay tax. Even without paying tax to make anything worth mentioning you would need these to sell for almost double football. There isn't a single 2024-25 basketball hobby product without a major change, like Mosaic, selling for more than the 2024 football version. You basically need to hope that this is a hot product internationally. 28,000 boxes for an online exclusive is not limited at all. Probably the larger amount ever printed.

Huh, It's still available on the website

Trying to "flip" every product released is why box prices stay high. I think anyone who wants to buy and open this at $250 will be able to do so

$250. It wasn't a dutch auction, just a set price. Considering FOTL sold out for over $500, I'm surprised these lasted as long as they did at $250.

I remember the first year of photogenic I got boxes for $116 each

and then I chipped a Ayo crystal /75 putting it into a penny sleeve. Top of card got caught on it.

Guess at least it wasn't the luka /75 I damaged

this is one of the better panini sets there is but at $250 it is a terrible rip
