I'll quibble with you on 2 things you said TJ:

1. Color Match is very much a things (kinda always has been). Sold prices for Red parallels for Mahomes stuff go for much higher than they would just based on #ing.

2. Paid much attention to 2013 Select lately? Granted people have been trying to pump it forever, but it's definitely gained big traction in the past couple of years for Golds. Stackings Slabs podcast has been talking about this.

Hoarding 2016 Optic #ed may well be a pretty smart play.

Ehh.. I'm 50/50 on the color match thing. Mahomes Prizm Red's are also helped by the fact that they are an extremely rare legacy insert at this point in Prizm. If folks are chasing Mahomes Phoenix Reds and Select Reds and paying large premiums for them, let know me and I'll be convinced.

As for the 2016 Optic.... I held onto a Brady Gold 2016 Optic from about 2020-2024. I finally moved in last summer because I felt like the money could be put into something even more significant. I did like the card, and think 2016 Optic and 2013 Select probably have room to run, but they'll always be multiples behind 2012 Prizm and Rookie Prizm Golds.

Last sold at auction in 2023 for $312k and before that in 2022 for $288k.

Slightly worse deal than the BGS NT RPA /15 for $1MM, the last copy of which sold for $73k.

I really like Josh Allen.

Seems like a good dude, and a heck of a football player. I remember one year a while back he was actually being ranked as the #1 QB, back when Mahomes only had 1 Super Bowl and Allen was stuck at 0.

He was the other quarterback in the greatest playoff game ever played.

Does he have his own thread around here? If not, maybe someone should make one and see what kind of interest it gets.

Josh Allen is a probable Hall of Fame and arguably as good as anyone in the game except for one person who this thread is about.... Some of his fans sometimes need to be reminded of all his accomplishments... Id take him over probably anyone buy one guy....

Just my two cents, but I think color match is more so a "cherry on top" thing. The cards that have value are almost always determined oddly by consensus desire/demand (PMGs, Brady Bowman Chrome, Prizm because it's shiny).

A lot of that has to do with scarcity and/or rarity, rookie year, higher end sets where the entry point is more expensive obviously. I think color match is nice but to me and overall I feel like it's much further down the list. The high end stuff isn't affected by match really. It's a bit hype driven as well. Maybe for low to mid end stuff it matters more. It just feels a bit artificial. But like a jersey number serial, yeah it's cool, it's a cherry on top.

Also, color match is in no way a Covid thing. It was around long before. A super easy way for collectors to focus their PC. Royals, Cubs, Dodgers guys like Blue /150, Mets and Giants guys like Orange /25, etc. Etc. Very consisten pattern I've observed as a buyer and seller of low end since ~2015.

I'm not sure if you were responding to me, but I agree that it is a "thing" absolutely. I'm just debating on how important it actually is. In terms of a 2024 Select card for Mahomes, yeah it looks like it. But I think it matters more for lower end stuff, and that certainly is lower end. People also want certain colors I think, Red and Blue are attractive as you mentioned blue in your next post, where as Purple? Not so much --- unless it is a color match for a Vikings guy maybe, to your point. I'm not looking at it from the perspective of a flipper or wholeseller, but if I was - then yes color matches probably do matter for lower end, low-mid end stuff. No one wants a zebra-tiger-purple-pink pulsar non-very low (/1, /5, /10) card. Those are just aesthetically terrible.
