We kept it real simple with burgers n dogs too although they’re the homemade natural casing dogs from the local meat market. Quite a treat to me. Being poor has its advantages. When you splurge on something even as insignificant as hot dogs you really enjoy it. Some veggies n hummus+ chips n guacamole rounded out the offerings nicely.

Happy Independence Day everyone. Don’t do anything stupid with fireworks.

And if you do, take photos of on scene fire trucks and ambulances for me.

Went to Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts for their Independence Day today. Very strong turnout. If any of you have ever been you know there are tons of period actors. Got to hear a history of the Declaration of Independence, and a reading of it. Walking the 200 acres in the heat nearly killed me as I'm sadly out of shape.

But the really lasting memory was they have a naturalization ceremony in the commons. 147 people became American citizens. A ton of period actors were out singing patriotic songs, with fife and drum. The judge, elected officials, and ephemera all came out on their day off for it. There were several hundred onlookers.

The moment that got me was this Indian man, probably in his late 50's, who was so proud. Sitting in the front row, absolutely dressed to the nines, pressed suit and shined shoes. Everyone getting naturalized had a little American flag and whenever they would wave them he would stand up and wave it to the crowd, beaming. When they took the final Pledge of Allegiance and they received his certificate he stood up and showed it to the crowd and waived his flag.

My GF said, okay, its' over, let's go. But I said hold on, there's something I need to do. SO I waded through the crowd, found him, extended my hand and welcomed him to American citizenship. He shook my hand and thanked me several times.

We all have our difference, but at that moment I was very proud to be an American.

God save the Republic.

And about an hour later he was escorted to Alligator Alcatraz.

I spent my 4th of July paying $45 to wake up at 6:30 AM, drive across the city, and get a piece of cheap metal at the end. But it was fun. I ran 3.3 miles of the 4 miles had to finish it by walking because if I ran anymore I was going to puke definitely. Great way to spend my 3rd month anniversary of getting my surgery. While I finished ahead of only 15 people I was just glad to be out there again in my first race since surgery. Unfortunately I am going to have to not do anymore races until September or October because I am having a lot of issues with my health and I’m getting too hot
