Default Unknown Hand Cut Red Heart

I've got an interesting one here that I can't solve, maybe someone can clear it up for me.

Bought a lot of 1954 Red Hearts and all look pretty standard (aka beautiful) except for a few. Attaching a picture below of the Al Rosen..

It appears to be hand cut from something, blank back on vintage stock that is very similar to the originals and even has the beautiful vintage aroma to it. Surface has some of the standard indicators of years of love and definitely has all of the hallmarks of not just simply being a fake. I'm thinking it's cut from another box or something of the sort, but would love to hear if anyone else knows.

Could be a blank back. Is the card the same thickness?

Great question... the blank back appears to be slightly thicker.

Either a blank back or a promotional piece. Maybe will carry a slight premium if you can find a buyer. With Al Rosen, I doubt it would carry much additional value. Net54 forums could give you a better answer. That is a beautiful set and I might be saving up for the Mantle.

I have seen blank backs over the years but never got an explanation as to why. Seen some from time to time on eBay. Happens to be one up now...

Let us know if you get any info from Net54.

Thanks!

My first thought was box cut but, like others, I'm curious to find out!
