When competition on the floor forces you to adapt. There are a half dozen tables like this at Chantilly right now

Buying 80-85% (-90%)

At that point, why don't the sellers just sell on EBay (where you get 87%) or on social media (where you get 100%)?

I can think of a few reasons.

1. Sellers value cash in hand a lot more than $ being deposited into their checking account

2. Cash in hand is immediate. No waiting around for eBay authenticity to validate your item before being paid (i.e., it is not taking several days)

3. You can redeploy the cash immediately on the show floor with other dealers

4. People are afraid of 1099-Ks being generated and having to prove a cost basis on their taxes. The Chantilly show is in Virginia and our state has had a $600 limit for 1099's for a while now. I have gotten them every year since 2020 and I sell very little on eBay or through PayPal G&S. Getting multiple 1099s a year is annoying but you have to track it all if you live here.

5. People want to hide $ from their wives. If you sell on eBay and have a shared account, she will know. This one is partially joking, but I am sure it has happened

Went to a Flip Trade show in Pelham AL yesterday. Huge turnout. Was able to pick up a Skene’s RC for my son, some Elly RC’s, a Gunnar Father’s Day patch /75, and set builds for $100. My daughter’s boyfriend came with me and my only piece of advice is to stay in your budget. His first pickup was a Yadi RC so he’s happy.

It was pulled by WeTheHobby here in Rochester, the "owner" then sold it RothCards.

The rumor is that he/she sold it for $10k, but IDK, seems low to me...

I was at a show in Houston last week that was pretty busy. One guy had a sign like that saying "Paying 60%". Somehow there were people talking to him...

6. These guys buy at whatever percent and then later in the day the arena club backyard repacker guy comes around and pays 2% more.

Almost Instant profit.

To be honest, setting up like this as a collector is a great way to pick up cards at a discount since none of the dealers are ever willing to budge more than 5%.

Plus you get early dibs on what customers are bringing in.

One of the influencers at the show actually did an Instagram video talking about "meeting me at the buying stations" and then it was 4 or 5 people at different buying stations in the same show wondering why nobody could see them. I mean that mean be the flex for them but if I am CSA I am finding it a little embarrassing.

Went to a show in Daphne myself yesterday. Also a MASSIVE turnout and man, there were some insane vintage deals on raw cards.

It was also extremely refreshing to see about 3-1 sports vs Pokémon yesterday. Who said sports cards are dead. They looked very much alive and well yesterday. Congrats on your pickups.

And they’re VERY proud of their cards, as the pricing reflects.

Thanks and same to you. I would say it was about the same for sports vs Pokemon, but still more than I have ever seen at a show. I would also say it was about the same for graded vs raw. Normally I can find multiple tables with $1 boxes to sift through but there was only a handful. A CRAP TON of graded and it was probably 2-1 PSA vs SGC. Didn't know SGC was getting so popular. I'm familiar with Daphne....where was the show at? What are some good stores between FWB and over to the Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area?

That’s false. There was a 250k bounty on the black finite before it was pulled.

Went to Chantilly simply to get same day authentication at Beckett and JSA. I walked around to kill the 2 hours until drop off pickups.

Observations:

- Prices and asks were comical and dealers scoffed at offers
- Tons of Pokemon tables
- The social media bros everywhere filming were annoying
- The constant pelican cases on top of displays blocking most of the cards was enraging
- Little hobby wax that I saw, all retail
- People smelled bad

Otherwise, the Beckett and JSA service was great!

Good thing it wasn't earlier in the week when it was like the surface of the sun.
