I'm actually shocked people are still buying Wander Franco. His TC Update rookie superfractor auto sold for $3k last month. Like whoever bought that card, they are betting on him being found not guilty of the heinous accusations, then be able to find a team willing to take on his baggage, and also be able to return to the elite level of play he was playing at before his suspension?

The fact his card are still selling for even 3 figure, let alone 4 is insane.

I think there’s just a lot of money out there and some people get a tickle out of buying a big card that would have sold for $50k+ a few years ago back for a “measly” $3k. Whoever bought used their lunch money for the purchase. It could every well be their coaster at a holiday party this year.

I can actually see the appeal of owning a card that was once worth 6 figures for pennies on the dollar to show around. "Hey, check this out! Remember this guy???".

Definitely. I can see a future where I’m able to buy a cool Jazz superfractor for dirt cheap and it’ll be cool to have just to have, BUT I can’t say I would ever want to do that with Wander. I would love to unload the cards I have a of his…

I don't think it's people "betting" on him to beat the charges and make a return to MLB, it's more people valuing infamy. Just like the people that pay surprisingly good money for Aaron Hernandez cards and the 1990 Hoops Mark Jackson card with the Menendez brothers in the background.

The correct answer ended up being Pete Crow-Armstrong.

I think a lot of us Cubs fans would have been happy with the YTD output as his 162 game numbers for 2025.

Imagine there was a time when you could pick up 2011 heritage high boxes for 45 per.

But have you heard about his 2022 Konami ex-sign card? Hear it’s a real grail, one of a kind even.

Was digging through some 2024 boxes tonight looking to see if I had any Andy Pages to sell, and noticed that I still have a bunch of Jackson Chourio cards that never sold. I'm wary of him because he never seemed as popular as Skenes or Elly (I have only one Skenes, and no Elly cards left), but I'm thinking I might take a look at Chourio.

You just have to be careful with that card - so many fakes and false sales…

Only do so as a collector, not an investor. He looks like a consistent 20/20 guy with a possible peak of 25/25. That’s solid for real life and fantasy purposes, but it won’t move the hobby needle much for him. He’s currently over priced based on the prospect hype he had coming into the Majors.

I'm high on Roki long term. His cards need a lot of continued price deflation from all the initial hype - as a speculator, not a fan, I'm hoping he has an extended injury absence and gets right. I'll be looking to add later in that injury absence.

I couldn’t imagine a pitcher being the on my personal list.

(And I collect a few pitchers!)

Same, and yeah his stuff was hella high and still hasn't really come down. Ready for the prices to fall.

Max Scherzer seems to have become a hobby afterthought in the last couple of years with more separation emerging in the demand for Scherzer, Kershaw, and Verlander.

I think part of that has to do with the fact that Scherzer has been hopping teams.

Kershaw has played for only one team, the Dodgers.
Verlander has played 95% of his career with the Tigers and Astros.

Scherzer cards from his DBacks/Tigers/Nats days are doing fine. But demand for his Dodgers/Mets/Rangers/Blue Jays cards are non-existent.

Kind of like how nobody collects Ichiro cards from his Yankees & Marlins years, or the fact that there's a huge market for Will Clark Giants cards, but virtually none for his Rangers/Orioles/Cardinals cards.

Players become associated with the teams with which they had the most impact, and Scherzer has had minimal impact with any of the teams he played with post-Nats.

It'll all depend on if he can develop more power or not. Currently he's hitting more fly balls than he did last year but he's converting fewer of them into home runs. He is still really young so he could fill out more (that said I don't own any Chourio cards, I'd probably wait for a lull to buy some).
