Default Andy Pages

Not sure he can be even a hobby star but he is raking right now.

It is not like he didn't have a lot of success in the minor leagues either.

Being on a powerhouse team helps.

One of the best defenders in baseball on pace for 6 FWAR.

Should be an All-Star.

He had some heat prior to call up and I think there's been some modest gains from where he settled after being a regular. He's really pretty awesome in the level of production just below PCA and Ohtani for MVP talk. His arm alone has been worth 5 DRS and the eye test really agrees with that imo.

I would.

I don't think prices are cheap right now though but there still is upside.

Lol I bought a raw 2024 chrome update refractor /499 for $18 shipped a couple months ago. I’m going to get it graded if Pages sustains this performance, as it looks like it has a great chance at a ten. One ended today (raw) at $85 plus shipping.

Dude plays for the World Series champs, who are the favorites again this year, and is on the verge of his first all star game. He won’t be Shohei, but he won’t be hobby irrelevant.

Andy actually passed Ohtani in average tonight, .294 versus .292 for Shohei.
Freddie and Will Smith are 1-2 in the NL, so that's four Dodgers in the Top 10.

im sure Dodgers fans will buy his stuff but what will he do to pass:

Ohtani
Mookie
Freddie
Yamamoto
Roki

in the eyes of non Dodger Fans in the hobby?

Hell, one could argue that only Ohtani is "Hobby Good" from the above list

You watch the road crowds for Dodgers games? It’s a really massive tent. There’s been games in Los Angeles East(Denver) and Los Angeles Southwest (Phoenix) where the Dodger fans outnumbered the home team fans 4-1. I’ve only seen that happen in LA once (2018 World Series game 5 ☹️ )

Andy Pages has been very good to me. He was an excellent bargain in the offseason, especially during Spring Training. I scratched him off my list not too long ago and today I think I sold my last one (although I thought that yesterday too...). I think he's pretty high right now compared to where he'll settle as soon as this offseason.

For one, he could play for a couple years, because Roki and Yamamoto will be a long forgotten memory by then.

But second, he doesn't have to pass those guys. There isn't a limit to the number of stars in the hobby. And the whole concept of limiting the label of "hobby good" to a handful of superstars is stupid anyway. There are millions of collectors who can support lots of hobby stars. Pretending only the top few are hobby good is simply a newbie way of understanding a complex hobby.

He’s also 24. James Outman briefly caught the hype train which never made a ton of sense since he was 25 when he debuted. Pages has the chance and the age to really put up some numbers. For one, he might touch 35 homers this year while winning a gold glove.

While I don't disagree with this, I think there's validity to value of a player when there are multiple star players -- it tends to water it down (unfortunately). There's more stardom when players are by far the best player on their team (e.g. Skenes, Witt Jr. etc.).

There’s more star power when the player immediately comes up and stars. If he was this good through the World Series run, his market would be way higher than it is now. That said, it’s definitely trending up.

Pages value in the hobby comes with being more affordable. His prices aren't even high right now but it's more than I want to pay until I see more sustained success.

Dude is absolutely raking and going 4/4 after Shildt and the Padres disrespected him makes me think he could be the real deal.

I'm pretty happy with the stuff of his I picked up leading up to the season. #@#@#@#@ I got a /50 refractor of one of his minor league cards as a throw in on an order over the off season if that tells you where people's minds were at with him.

Definitely think Outman, Vargas, Miller etc. have given collectors pause.

Ugh, don't remind me about Miller. Just 26, but most have moved on. A change of scenery seems likely.

Pages on the other hand has been a revelation. Easy to root for, fun to watch.

BTW, whatever happened to "every thread needs cards"?

A World Series MVP Award would help.
His Topps flagship rookie is one terrific looking card!

Pulled an orange paper auto of him in Bowman this spring and had zero clue who he was. Glad I held on to it

Sick play by Pages. Just give him a Gold Glove now.
