I agree. He had a grounder two nights ago that he definitely could have made close if he had hustled. He looks frustrated. But you don’t break out of a slow start by playing like that.

Just looked up Soto's stats for this year...did not realize he was off to such a slow start. Combine that with his poor defense and lack of hustle and I am not feeling so great about my Soto collection anymore. Hopefully he turns things around.

What would it take for Soto to turn into the next Manny Machado hobby wise?

That is a good question. I collect players I like that are fun to watch and root for. So if the player is performing well, it is fun. When they stop performing well its not so fun.

I have a pretty large Soto collection that I bought during the Covid boom. Haven't bought any new Soto cards in awhile. Was not super happy that he signed with the Mets over the Yankees. He was fun to watch last year. This year not so much.

Edit: And at this point hobby wise I don't think he moves the needle anymore with collectors.

Soto will be fine. He will hit like past years, give him time. It's the lack of hustle that worries me. He can't sign that ginormous contract and now out of nowhere not hustle.

For the person worried about their Soto collection, sell it and move on if you are worried.

I don't think Soto will be as disliked as Machado and while he's on the Mets there will be a 24/7 news cycle about him. Its already gone on for over a year and shows no signs of letting up. Guy gets more coverage in NY media than Judge or the Knicks right now.

Bought the majority of my Soto cards during the Covid boom. Still not selling. Will also go down with the ship.

The hobby expectation is that Soto should be performing like a top 5 player in the league and he is not. But the lack of hustle and not wanting to face the media and be asked questions about the Yankees and Judge seems strange. He is now the face of the Mets and needs to embrace his role and show leadership.
