Who was that Cubs clown from like 10 years ago that had horrible and violent swing mechanics?

he's laughing all the way to the bank

in a somewhat unrelated tangent that 2016 cubs world series had a strange curse

zobrists wife cheated on him with a pastor
kris bryants career fell off a cliff
arrieta...not even sure what happened to him
Baez is a train wreck

He would stand in the box waving his bat around behind his tucked head, creating a rhythm for himself before each pitch. He'd stand mostly upright, with a closed stance and his long legs close together. His stride was fairly long, with his front foot landing softly like a ballerina. In his swing, he'd throw his hips at the ball and the bat would come whipping through the zone in a rotational path. In his follow-through, he'd hold the bat with one hand and gently drop the bat flat onto the dirt at it's completion.

He'd jerk the bat around a lot before the swing to activate his hands. But the swing itself was smooth -- rotational.

I’ve seen many players with beautiful effortless swings where the ball explodes off that players bat. As far as most violent, it’s obvious : G. Stanton has a 80.6 MPH swing which is off the charts. He has by far the most hardest hit home runs since this stat was able to be tracked. Stanton just rips on his swings and has both elbow’s with injury issues. He is a detriment to his own good the way Tatis was until holding onto the bat with both hands throughout his swing.

Check out “Most Violent baseball swing”, the article has Stanton far and above anyone close.

Yeah, i thought it was some physiological thing but it mostly has to do with where 1st base is located and how left hander's natural momentum takes them towards it while right handers away from it and perhaps mechanics wise, they are incentivized to compact their swing so they can run towards 1st base.

He's one of those guys who falls through the cracks historically but anyone who collected in the late 80s/early 90s knows how good and relevant he was. Rememeber how hot his 1987 Fleer RC was?

Gunnar Henderson has the best swing. Whether you want to call it the “smoothest,” I don’t know. But Gunnar is so direct to the ball, and the point of contact is a perfectly timed explosion.

I wasn't around then, but I remember seeing it and his Donruss and Topps rookies in display cases at my local hobby shops years later -- good times.

Olerud had such a clean, simple swing. Just out there trying to hit doubles in the gaps.

I don't think any player irritated me more than Will Clark. He's the reason I despise the Giants and always will.

For me the smoothest swing I ever saw was John Olerud and Griffey Jr a close second ... today I have to say for smoothest Addison Barger on the Jays and also on the Jays Guerrero Jr. for most violent swing

Yeah, I think the natural turn towards first base makes lefty swings look a bit more effortless.

good choice

In terms of current active players, I've always been a fan of Nolan Arenado's swing:

Call me crazy but with the adjustments he's made in 2025 to be more upright in his setup I think Brice Turang has a very aesthetically please swing now. Its certainly not Griffey but its another smooth left handed stroke.
