So after Bowman on Wednesday, not a single other baseball product the rest of the month, but tons of unlicensed football/basketball.

Awful if nothing else ends up getting released. I don't mind that Fanatics purged a bunch of the lower end products once they took over, but the number of releases for 2024 seemed appropriate (assuming we still get Chrome Platinum). They've already culled 2025 Big League in favor of 1000 different iterations of Series 1, which was terrible... I Hope that's where the chopping block ends.

They don't have the capacity to produce all the products under their umbrella now that the NFL, NBA and Disney/Marvel are being incorporated. The baseball products are taking a back seat as a result. We might have seen the peak for Topps baseball releases under Fanatics, which wasn't much to begin with.

I thought I saw a rant on Youtube that it was confirmed Chrome Platinum has been cancelled. You can fact check me on that though. But after Bowman it'll be Series 2 which is normally mid June.

They don't announce everything. That could be the window that Dynasty drops.

Not sure why you’d release another product so close to Bowman. All dollars need to be pouring into $25 random team spots for a chance to hit a BCA of a relief pitcher who will never make the bigs.

Cancelling an extremely popular release that is your last chance to capitalize on the strong 2024 rookie class so you can pump out more unlicensed football cards during football offseason seems like a brilliant idea.

Its impossible to know the specific numbers, but I would guess Topps would make hundreds of thousands of dollars more on a random unlicensed football product than they would Topps Chrome Platinum.

Maybe, but that sounds like a complete guess on your part without any data to back it up.

If licensing isn't important and you make more on an unlicensed product, then why not just drop all of your licenses and become Leaf? Are you saying Topps is going to make less money on its football and basketball products once they are licensed or are you just saying football products in general are more profitable than baseball? 2023 Topps Chrome Platinum sold out really fast pretty much everywhere so they did something right with it.

I would also assume the number of sets per year is written into the contracts with the players associations and I would guess it's pretty high given fanatics goals of "growing" the hobby.

Bowman gets a lot of runway to be the only baseball product since there's so so much of it. It'll need it, breakers will be begging people to fill breaks within the first couple days of release.

To be fair, you don't have any data to support Plat Anny being an "extremely popular release".

If anything, Topps willingness to cancel the product with that strong of a rookie class points to the opposite.

I think the fact that all 2023 hobby sold out long ago across the big 3, retail isn't available most places and prices of what is available have gone up points to it being extremely popular (at least for the 2023 version). Regardless, that is just my opinion and I have no problem with you or anyone else disagreeing. Fanatics does what it does and if it chooses to kill the product, no amount of complaining on my part will change that.

Wait, now we're complaining that we aren't getting more baseball products? I thought we were all still complaining that there were too many baseball products and calling for less releases?

I get the feeling that we’ll see more and more baseball products delayed to make sure they get the call-ups who just make it in at the deadline into the checklist. Like Skenes last year. We’re getting close to this year’s deadline, and I’m sure they would love to have Roman Anthony and/or Jac Cablianone in as many products as possible (if that’s an option).

I agree. Cancelling more of these baseball products is a good thing. Makes the releases they stick with much more valuable and meaningful.

I believe at the Topps conference people were told there would be no 2024 Platinum, it is now only an odd year product.

Also heard that 2024 Topps Inception should be coming still as the last baseball release for 2024 class. All this from somebody who was there, but things could change.

I wasn't complaining, just making an observation.

There's only one other baseball product I have any interest in (Chrome Platinum Anniversary), and nobody seems to be sure if/when that product is going to be released.

What I've heard (third-hand, FWIW) is that it IS going to be released later this year with the 1955 Topps design (which should be next, since last year was 1954), but will be released as a "2025" product, not a "2024" product.

No release dates given, but this would seem to confirm that they're moving on to 2025.

Thinking they can't make more products if they want to...
...when they are releasing Tennis cards.

It is speculation, I agree. I have nothing but my opinion to back it up. But from my market observations, TC Platinum is more niche and overshadowed by most other baseball products. They just happened to do it correctly, which is why it was a solid release. But the fact is, it doesn't sell great out of the gate and the secondary market isn't as strong as a lot of other baseball releases. I know this for a fact because I sold a lot of it.

Now, in regards to football. People are foaming at the mouth for Topps football. The unlicensed stuff is junk IMO, but there is a very large market for it. So many exclusive autographs means that the demand will remain, even without logos. We are also moving closer to football season, where we have passed the early season spike in baseball and are heading towards the slower summer.

I didn't say anything about them becoming Leaf. These are stop-gag money grabs till they get the all clear for everything. If they did this for 10 years the appeal would dwindle and it wouldn't be as profitable. So there you go, that is why I made the statement I did. We can't see their balance sheets, so we have to use logic to come to some conclusions. TC Platinum just wasn't a priority. One of my favorite releases has been the online Mini flagship cards. That one wasn't a priority either. Oh well.
