karma for fouling up 3 instead of trusting their defense. #EthicalHoops

Westbrook did brick away the comeback, OKC just decided not to take it.

When did the strategy change from fouling up three only when less than 5 to play and a player touches it inside the arc to instant midcourt foul at 16 seconds. I feel like I’ve been in a coma, don’t have babies

They took notes from Doc Rivers on how to choke an insurmountable lead

Great game. I don't have a horse in the race but i find myself rooting for the Nuggets in these west playoffs.

both upsets - might've been the best night of the playoffs so far

There's going to be real concerns about OKC's ability to finish games and win close playoff games. If I were them I'd put game 2 away early just to get the first win in the series.

It's just amazing all three 60 win teams lost their game 1's.

Just like everyone predicted.

I'm so proud of the Nuggets performance tonight. And thank goodness all these podcasting 'experts' aren't part of the team makeup... almost all of them suggested they had no chance @OKC in game 1 because of the rest vs GM 7 scenario and they should punt on it for GM 2 instead. I never understood it - that's just loser mentality. You strike while the iron is hot!

Joke was incredible tonight, they mauled him and he just powered through, pinning multiple, multiple fouls on his defenders on his way to racking up 42 and 22! Was very concerned they were gonna eject him although it probably looked worse on the slow mo. Is his best defender (Big Zu) already in the rear-view mirror?

This Denver team has so much heart. Those extraordinarily late firings seemed to lift a dark cloud over the locker room.

It's only one game but wow, what a win!

(Shout out Caruso, that boy was a menace.)

We have to be careful of recency bias and low sample size. All three of these 60 win teams could easily come storming back and win the next three games of the series.

However, since teams and players really don't play that hard (especially defensively) or really care as much, maybe we will get more upsets going forward. Teams with playoff experience regardless of seeding will have the advantage. OKC went 15-43 from 3, not as bad as Boston, but still a lot of misses. These games could just easily be shooting variance games. Cleveland went 9-38. All three losing teams racked up a ton of missed threes.

I guess this points towards the Warriors winning tonight.

Maybe they should have a limit on the number of 3s you can miss in a game. Like cap it at 20, if you miss 21 the game is forfeit regardless of the score. Missing 45 is insane, that's 135 potential points.

Westbrook has been absolutely vital for the Nuggets this playoffs. He's been limiting his shots, scoring efficiently the last 4 games, and making impact plays.

Him, Gordon, and Murray have suddenly upped their game.

Wonder how Chet's going to recover from the meltdown.

All systems go for Westbrook - except don't shoot a 3. I cringe every time he lets a 3 shot fly.

He and Jamal Murray are both shooting 38.9% this playoffs. 14-36 isn't bad at all

Yeah, this stood out to me too. Why foul way in the backcourt? Make them dribble up the court at the very least. It could’ve shaved valuable seconds off the clock.

And really, why even foul like that with so much time left? Make the Nuggets hit a contested three. Fouling is what you do to extend the game when you’re behind. Why extend the game when you’re winning?!

I guess the silver lining is it’s only one game. But that’s a game they should never have lost.

Not at all. I can't speak of that which I don't know, but anyone who paid attention to the last three months of the Eastern Conference season saw the Pacers develop and progress into a top team, with depth and rested legs.

Without a lengthy regular season, Cavs and Thunder would be in the Finals and you know we all want to see that.

I get recency bias. Just not sure why everyone was counting out Denver as they costed into the playoffs with the best player in the world.. Aaron Gordon jk

2 comments:

1. Regular season dominance doesn't guarantee playoff success

2. Nothing is absolute until a team wins all 4 games (in a best-of-7 series). Lots of game 1 upsets but the fat lady is far from singing.

Boston's offense is so boring to watch.

The sooner they get knocked out, the better.

And Buddy Hield the mastermind behind Golden State's triumph. No one saw that coming, except those who remember he taught Hali all he knew.

What did Buddy teach Haliburton? How to brick shots 4/7 games?

And apparently still win. I mean Pacers and Warriors both, due to their respective clutch captains.
