Default Are people good at resealing boxes?

There is an unopened Topps Jumbo box on eBay that looks like it has not been tampered with.

I asked the seller some questions about the boxes and his answers were sus.

Are there people that are good at resealing wax like they have never been touched?

I have seen some sloppy jobs for sure. I always thought it was obvious.

There are amateurs and there are professionals.

Many who buy wax to keep sealed are the best targets. They don’t open any or enough to realize they bought a resealed box.

Like anything, buyer beware.

What are some signs to look for though? Have not had an issue myself, but rarely buy boxes from individuals.

What were the answers?

I once sold a box on ebay for over $1,000 and I showed photos of every side of the box. If the seller didn't do that or won't do that, I'd just walk away.

If there's an opportunity to run any kind scam involving cards, someone out there is really good at it.

Is the box significantly cheaper than you can get anywhere else?

If it is, there's your answer.

Panini has been targeted much more than Topps for resealing. Although it obviously happens with everything. If its a lower end product I don't think you have much to worry about. I personally haven't heard of any issues with a flagship product being resealed, but maybe its happened. The biggest issues IMO with buying individual boxes on the secondary market are more about selling off extra boxes after big hits from a case, or scanned stuff now. Both of these would technically still be factory sealed. If a product is brand new you are usually safe as well. Just use your gut and compare pictures to other boxes like yours. If your gut tells you something is off just walk away. There is too much stuff out there to get tunnel vision on a single box. Go find another one.

Hanger boxes are very susceptible to this. They carefully open them from the bottom, replace the cards with a comparable weight in cards, then reseal it with glue. It's very hard to tell it's ever been opened. I had a couple of issues with this when I was buying the Walgreen exclusive yellow hangers from 2019 - 2021. I own a handful of female wrestler cards because of it.

Anything that can be packaged in a factory can also be done by an individual in their own home if there is a large enough financial gain at the end of the process.

Current wax prices, with very basic box packaging materials possibly make trading cards the most obvious target at this time.
