Your logic is all kinds of backwards here. Fanatics just sold $5,000,000 of this product off the chase for less than 200 autos. That is exactly how they maximize profits off their Ohtani deal.

He already has a ton of autograph cards in circulation -- especially his rookie-year ones, which have his best-looking signature.

This product sold well because he was paired with all-time greats -- specifically Barry Bonds, who is signing for Topps for the first time in a decade and only has a handful of pre-existing dual autographs.

I don't think Topps is going to be able to consistently sucker people into buying crap products like this by dangling Ohtani autos in front of their faces -- it's going to take some more effort.

This may be the worst product Topps ever put out. The base cards have 0 Visual appeal and 98% of boxes are $20 or less.

This is the classic case of Topps taking collectors out to the shed and then walking back with tens of thousands of dollars. I’m not sure they’ve ever put out a more terrible product from design, to price, chances for a hit, etc.

And here's the thing... say Ohtani or Trout (wishful thinking on Trout) get a 4th MVP, then these cards will carry less value, specially the autos who I assume with have a 3X MVP wording on them.

The box promises one serial numbered card and one dual card with Ohtani.
Only has 3x MVP winners on the checklist with 3 different Ohtani base cards.
I'm not saying boxes are loaded but looking at eBay the base dual cards are selling for $10-$15 each and just the base Ohtani cards are also selling for $10-$15 each so I'd say most boxes should be over that $20 mark you mentioned.

I will say that they did a better job on the backs of the cards compared to the 50/50 set that had the same blurb on each card. Though it would be nice to have some kind of better card stock with the foil effect similar to Triple Threads on the base cards since you only get like 12 in each box.

Besides the 50/50 Ohtani release, what product can you open that has better odds of hitting an Ohtani parallel or auto?

It’s a low bar, but these are better quality than the 50/50 set. The base cards are decent stock.

I understand Bonds has 7. But I personally wouldn't want a Trout or Ohtani card that says 3X MVP if they have 4.

One reason I chose not to gamble on this set while I did the 50/50 set. What are the odds Ohtani goes 50/50 again? I'd wager slim to none. Odds ANY player ever going 50/50 again (Ohtani is the only one to date) are probably also close to slim to none as well.

But let's say Ohtani somehow does go 50/50 again. His cards from the 2024 50/50 set will always be worth more as they commemorated the first player ever have a 50/50 season....and it just happened to be the most popular player in the game right now.

As you stated, if Ohtani wins a 4th MVP (or more), the significance and value of the 3x MVP cards will go down ala Ohtani's 40/40 Topps Now cards after he went 50/50.
