Like I said in the Heritage High Thread, it looks like Topps is trying hard to nudge collectors to retail, leaving hobby for breakers.

In the case of 2025 bowman, it's $90 for 3 blasters, $239 for same amount of cards in hobby.

I've already seen myself nudged to retail on a couple products. It doesn't make any sense to pursue hobby....better to just buy the hard to hit cards I want as singles.

UPDATE: Jumbo boxes/cases and Hobby cases are sold out.

Hobby boxes and Value Boxes are still available.

So Topps finally puts Zyhir Hope's chrome prospect autos on a checklist.

I wonder if these will be the rest of the 2024 Bowman autos that got out
or the new 2025 design with "1st"

Shame Topps never made an announcement on his 2024 1st autos.

Just a brutal price point. Literally quadruple from the pre-COVID era.

Picked up 15 blasters on the drop because they were 29.99 and Bowman is my favorite rip of the year. Will probably grab another 5-10 or so locally to vary the batch upon release. Open 10-12 and stash the rest.

The last 2 years they've been 34.99, which is ridiculous and I cut down. 24.99 would be perfect, but I think we're past those days for sure.

Odds sheet didn't have retail display boxes, are those not being produced this year? I typically grab 2-3 of those as well.

Doing some quick math, it looks like the best place to maximize your dollar/card value for chrome color prospects is going to be Blasters. Chrome Prospect Autos will definitely be Jumbo. To get Chrome Rookie Autos though, the best format is Blasters as well. I'm sure someone will go a bit deeper here on the numbers.

Nope. The friends don’t let friends buy retail mantra no longer applies.

Don’t worry, fanatics will offer the sold out hobby boxes later at an even higher price, if they feel that they can get it…..

I guess they think "peak breaking" is sustainable, but if they keeping watering down the product, I don't know that even breakers will want to keep opening anything but the high-end stuff. I can see that some of the breakers I have supported have cut way back on the mass-market products like Heritage and Flagship. They post less than half of the amount of breaks for that they used to because demand dries up quickly for those breaks (10 days, two weeks).

Trading Card Games, like Pokemon or Magic the Gathering. While you still typically lose on opening wax, you can pretty reliably return 50-85%.

And the products are more watered down now

Right now fanatics topps and there “distribution partners”

Are just testing price points to see how bad they can rip you off

Many don’t believe me.

And many think baseball prices are “deals”

It’s pathetic

One could also argue that its pathetic when people don't understand supply and demand. Your opinions on prices are irrelevant. As are mine. Your opinions on products being watered down or good value are irrelevant. As are mine. The market speaks for the market. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Pre-COVID prices mean nothing. The world has changed, the hobby has changed, the supply chain has changed, the distributor system has changed, and the people making the decisions about cards have changed. Almost nothing is the same. And yet people still want to compare to yesteryear.

PS. Baseball prices are good "deals" right now compared to what you are going to see in a year or two. Bookmark this post to see just how true this will be. You ain't seen nothing yet. Things are going to get crazy.

Agree. My complaining does nothing … and I always say I’m going to stop. But it’s a passion of mine and when you see it .. you say something

The reason I compare it yester year. Or 5 years ago 1985-2020

Because value was ok or decent then

Now so many or majority ROI per box is 10-20 percent per box

I wonder how the people who buy these boxes deal with mortgages car payments or savings accounts .. I’m sure they would all respond I’m great with money .. but it’s hard to believe

But as I always say fanatics is brilliant company. With in 2-3 years they were able to completely change the price point landscape of wax. Without making the products any better all .. most are probably worse

And most people just say thank you please give me more

As far as deals right now. I see triple threads at 700 tribute at 600 heritage at 175 etc. could go on and on. Just going blowout site. A fraction of people are buying these. There is no way it’s going up …. Unless the hobby goes to all gambling. Maybe it will

We had a local show and it was packed. Hobby is on fire

But a recession will come. And it will be interesting to watch the collapse of all of this

The gambling (fractionalization of costs) is exactly what has happened, and will continue further. But I am fairly confident that even if a recession hits it will not alter the hobby like some think. Again, fractionalization of costs. We aren't talking about people not buying $1,000 boxes anymore if their budget tightens. We are talking about people dropping $50-$60 a time. The majority of people will not alter their habits on small purchases like that. And there are so many people doing it that it would take an actual depression to stop it. A recession wouldn't do it.

But back to Bowman. I love this 25 release. I think it will be a great set long term. But I think its releasing at levels that I want no part of.

I may have missed it, but any buzz around the Bowman Mega boxes? I see they are up for pre-order and possibly the same price as last year. I did terrible with them last year though and will be staying away. Just surprised there isn't a thread about them.

Surprised how the mighty has fallen, used to be extremely popular, I remember going on the hunt. Used to be one of my favorite releases of the year.
