2024 Summer Olympics Cards from Topps?

Damn, I saw that auction when it was newly listed. I even placed an early bid to monitor it in the case I wanted to try for it.

But, like most auctions, I'm not available or forget to follow-up with them. I would've bought that card for more than $416 (to either hold/flip at a later time).

Although prices have certainly come down (Olympic autos as well as Ledecky, the latter having autos in multiple products/Topps Nows), $416 was a steal.

Haha, I was probably one of those people. I don't recall if I said prices would remain high but I certainly wouldn't have expected some to drop as much as they have. But, in addition to it being months after Olympics, a number of these athletes have had autos (including on-card) released in other products so that doesn't exactly help keep prices high (although good for collectors).

One thing to also note is that the Olympic card market is inefficient. Sold prices for the same card are all over the place. It's actually a good thing for both collectors and flippers/investors, if you know what you're doing. But yeah, I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that it's not just your usual flippers/investors or experienced collectors buying such cards. You have a lot of newer accounts buying such cards, and as we know, newer accounts don't have a lot of experience in navigating the platform for the best deals.

I think it's just as interesting that box prices have stayed pretty consistent.

As far as auctions, sign up for Gixen. I see something I want, I enter my highest bid and I forget about it. Keeps me from getting caught up in the back and forth and overpaying for something.

Sounds good! I still probably fall under that camp though haha :P

I'd like to assume it has to do with the fact that people enjoying ripping the product. So, even with a good wax supply, demand has remained steady. Not to mention, there's no other substitute for 2024 Olympic cards, the product offers a fun rip/good entertainment (2 autos, a good amount of numbered cards as well as other parallels) and has decent value relative to other non-Olympic products.

Man, I really need to sign up for Gixen. I remember TBP recommending it to me as well. Thanks for the reminder haha.

I pulled the Carl Lewis out of the case I opened and purchased the Parratto for super cheap. I only buy reds and plates if they are fairly cheap.

Not an active poster here but recently have managed to pick up a few cards from the set... all the Ledecky Dynastys, a few of the 1984 Red Refractor autos, and a Ryan Crouser 1/1. I was in the Stade de France for Valarie Allman's discus gold and Gabby Thomas's 200m win, and in the fullness of time would like to pick up the Red /10 Topps Nows from those events.
