Thanks! I always liked the look of the Ripken gold, in part due to the Masters design.

Congrats that is a gorgeous card.

96 mirrors golds get all the attention (and who can argue that as they are awesome), but man the 97 totally certified golds really pop too. Up there in my favs

1998 Donruss Signature Series Preview Autograph Alex Rodriguez. One of my favorite Arod cards.

Question on the 1997 pinnacle certified mirror golds (not the platinum one like above, just regular mirror golds)- has the print run ever been estimated?

People say the 96 mirror golds are around /30. If you go by baseballcardpedia and work out the 97 mirror golds from the given certified gold team odds, the mirror golds come out to like /25 which makes no sense, as I’m pretty sure it’s quite a bit above the 96’s, it seems like way more out there. But the article on there also says something about several print runs, so maybe thats complicating things. What’s the approximate print run of them do y’all think?

I tend to believe the multiple print run story, but also that Pinnacle originally intended them to be /30 like 1996.

That said, if you assume there were 30 copies per printing, and they re-printed them in all 5 of the assumed printings, that puts them as /150.

Of course, since the mirror blacks weren't in every print run, we can't assume all 5 printings were the same. But I feel like 150 is a good estimation that is supported by pop report estimations. There are 22 Larkins graded, but only a few 1996s. So 5x the print run feels right to me.

That sounds a lot more plausible. Sure feels like there’s a bunch more than the 96s and PSA pops seem to support it.

Only thing that doesn’t make sense to me is what’s going on with the gold teams then? Like if there were 5 different printings, what’s the story with those. They have a serial number on the back up to 499. And they have hard stated odds on the back of the pack of 1:119 (I checked a pack on eBay). It’s a bit unclear how that’s spread over different runs, unless you’re thinking they actually weren’t in certain runs (even though the packs give them odds), or there are even multiple examples of the same serial number, for different runs, which is probably not the case.

Most likely only in the first print run. I wouldn't put it past Pinnacle to just re-use pack odds for all print runs without telling anyone they had no shot at some of the cards.

It took me two weeks to make it through this thread! Clearly I really missed out on the 90's. My contribution is laughable compared to everything posted in here. But, let's see if I can get a picture to work...

Hopefully I didn't violate any unwritten "1st post" rules.

1999 UD Black Diamond was one of my favorites. Nice selection of sets Pequot.

Technically an insert - although the error (which makes it super rare) puts it as part of the set.

Number variation - 276 instead of BC12

Appreciate it! One verry small step closer in a set of 50, but a step nonetheless. I did pick up a pretty big name GER and will post in the 97 Finest collection thread in a sec to keep it updated

Just got these back from PSA, have had them for awhile, but slowly sending all my Bagwell and Biggio 90’s inserts. Have always loved this insert set

Bowman did an incredible job in 1999 with their refractors - they just might be my favorite bowman release from Jose's playing days. The gold refractor on the left is /25 and absolutely impossible - you never see it!

Heck, the only other Canseco I ever saw was missing the serial number, which I let go of years ago. (I believe it is the one that's on ebay now.) An Andruw Jones recently sold for nearly $400 & a Sabathia RC hit $3,500.

Stealing its thunder a bit in the design department (IMO), is the international refractor /100. It is easier to find (eBay shows the last one sold a couple years ago.)

Does having such a beautiful (and less rare) parallel of the same card steal some of the gold /25's mystique? Maybe - I guess we won't find out from a value perspective until/unless one hits the auction block, but being such a beautiful card numbered to /25 from 1999 should definitely punch its ticket to be in the conversation as an upper echelon card from the 90s.

Quite possibly my favorite set from the 90s.

In honor of Magicpapa, he helped me find the 24K gold to finish this. Was poorly listed on Burbank's site on Beckett Marketplace about 15-20 years ago. Listed as the /99 parallel for $18.00.

Coincidentally, the picture is also from that era has the Photobucket watermark. Have to rescan at some point.
