I will wait a few years after he retires to buy one of his rookies. The speculation of him breaking the record is already priced into his cards. It wouldn't surprise me when he breaks the record, Gretzky's cards will have a bigger spike. Tom Brady showed that once you retire, people move on. It looks like his cards recovered now when HOF and vintage collectors are going more after his cards.

I think you are responding to an argument no one is making. Who is saying he is in the same class as Gretzky as an all around player? I think no one.

25 games left to get 13, this season may be possible after all...

They could sit him a couple games to get him ready for the playoffs and I still think he has enough games to do it this year...

Might be beneficial for my hunt at The National if he gets it down now rather than next season, IDK...

It would be crazy to see him beat the goal record and raise the Cup this spring. And, next year, without pressure, going from town to town, to celebrate its achivements before retiring.

I suppose Crosby is not on Ovechkins level or popularity then since Ovie’s Young Guns and comparable cards go for more than Crosby’s.

If he gets the record this year AND wins the Cup, I would bet he retires...

Other than being the first person to 900, he wouldn't have anything else to play for.
He can't play in the next Olympics with how things stand right now I believe...

That would be the only thing left on his "wish list"...

How much are his FW rookies compared to Sid's FW rookies?

His cards have seen a pretty damn good increase over the past few years in anticipation of him breaking Gretzky's record. Sleep on his cards if you must but don't regret not picking one up as his cards continue to go up.

He's going to have over 900 goals when it's all said and done. That is nuts and will never be broken unless major rule changes are put in place.

I've read enough Gretzky books in my day, he's said many times the pressure multiples extensively once the record holder starts following you around...

Esposito when he broke the goals in a season record and Howe for 802 and the all time points...

He just wanted to get it over with so the person didn't have to keep following him around, he said he felt bad... But it also added a lot of pressure onto himself...
