Given fanatics makes the jerseys there's really no excuse to have napkin patches.

Sure, back then patches were faked, but the alteration was never disclosed in the listing. Resulting in unsuspecting buyers paying more for what they believed were better looking original patches.

Today, they are disclosing the addition of the altered patch in the listing. The buyers are knowingly paying more for the altered cards.

Nothing wrong with adding a little "flair" to these bland cards as long as you disclose your improvements. I'd love to see Mouchi's take on this.

Actually, if I am Mouchi, I am setting up a sweat shop somewhere so I can start cranking these out in quantity to take advantage of this current hobby trend.

A few dozen people with really small hands so they can work those replacement patches into the cards more quickly. Heck, throw in some needlepoint people to make counterfeit versions of the patches and you can really increase your margins.

This has been happening since at least the early 2000s. I guess the card companies still have no incentive to stop it.

If it's "player-worn" garbage does it really matter?

There must have been an issue with the Gunner sale. It was reposted with the words Game-Used Memorabilia covered in black. It still quickly sold for $115.

That's the biggest thing for me.

1. They clearly state the card is altered and if a buyer isn't reading the full description before bidding or hitting BIN that's on them IMO.

2. As said it's pretty easy to figure out if a relic/patch from a low end product like Ser 1 or Heritage has patches that should be in a product like Dynasty or Diamond Icons that's it's fake.

It is their card so they can do what they want with it. The problem comes when the buyer then resells it without disclosing the "improvements", be it online or at a show. I think we all know that it is bound to happen.

This.

That Nittany Lions patch should be a 1/1 (or /3 or /5 at the most) and that it's out of 25 should be the first red light. Thankfully my cynicism from the 90s prevents me from paying a premium for a sick patch that isn't a 1/1

Buyer beware.
