Eeek.

Moral of the story is to not trust a patch that is "too good" I guess?

I am more concerned that someone paid $41 for a napkin

It's not even Bounty...it's an unlicensed napkin.

It’s true… I got duped on a pretty “high” end one back in 2008 and got told it was a fake and altered almost immediately after I got on these boards. Which I’m actually very grateful for but it definitely taught me not to trust memorabilia cards. The sad thing is that it’s becoming such a common practice that the plain color swatches almost seem more appealing.

Pretty much.

What's even more sad is that we have forum members on here who are very proud to support these types of operations.

Case in point, this BODA thread in the football section: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1602038

I noticed a couple sellers on Ebay (Gridiron Cardboard 1, GOOD-TIME-CARDS) are still openly selling these fake patch cards.

Some of these patches have more connection to the player than the ones Panini puts in their cards.

This is the difference between then and now. Before it was hidden and passed off as originals. Now, These guys are stating they are enhancing the cards in the listing and people are still paying more for it.

This is so messed up, but I can't say I'm surprised at all.

Maybe you should call them custom made patches.

Do the listings say they are "enhanced"?

I might be the only one but I like napkin patches. A cleaner look.

If I knew these were actually worn by the player my collection would be full of them.

I’ll let the BODA folks be the litmus test, but this has been happening for 15-20 years. As someone above said, a /99 patch of a logo from a non-premium brand is a dead giveaway. Buyer beware

Not supporting this but what Topps and Panini was doing was just as bad. To me, manufactured patches and has no connection to the player or any event is just the same.

The people altering cards do suck but shame on the buyers for not doing any research. The really need to do more due diligence and understand the hobby more if they want to buy pieces like this.

No modern manufacturer puts a game used logo patch or logoman into a card /50

Another note to say that it is things like this that confirm that the hobby/business is in decline. We had this and other shadiness for years prior to the COVID bump, but it ended up in the background because sellers didn’t have to resort to the sketchiness to get $ and turn a profit.

The fact that this old game is back again is a sign of sellers having trouble turning a profit

I think this thread actually is doing the opposite of what it was intended to do

Lol the patches have been faked on such a larger scale from the 2000’s. Ain’t nothing new. See all the Topps Sterling jumbos 2009 ultimate jumbos and exquisite.

Of course buyers would prefer to buy better patches directly from the manufacturer but the manufacturers are partially to blame for putting terrible napkin patches in cards to begin with

That said, it should be a requirement that altered patch cards have some kind of unique stamp on them that the creator is required to put on there before they sell them so that it can't be misrepresented if/when somebody tries to resell an altered card

It’s actually against Antitrust Laws for them to put say old Trey Mancini jersey swatches in a Jackson Holliday card.
