I recently picked up a nice collection and found this 1997 Topps Commemorative Willie Mays AUTO. I did a little research and found people showing the difference between fake and real, however, I have NEVER found any cards from this series that is hand numbered on the back.
This one is written #24 out of 53. I'm a little skeptical as Willie wore number 24 so that would be the one to get (too good to be true) If anyone is familiar with these cards or knows something, I would greatly appreciate the feedback. I dont want to lose money submitting to PSA if the card is somehow fake or someone wrote the number on the card after the fact. Thank you all for your help! |

I'm not an expert, but the numbering looks different than anything I have ever seen. The autographed card might be real, but the numbering on the back is almost added afterwards. I don't see any of these cards numbered to 73.

One of these just sold in an older PSA slab last week.
Ebay auction number 306115247762 No numbering on the back. There are a bunch from other years, also with no numbering. Cardboard Connection says they were out of 65, see bottom here for checklist: https://www.cardboardconnection.com/...baseball-cards

Beckett shows that these cards are limited to 65, but no serial numbering on the card.

Mays signed about 65 copies of nineteen different reprint cards; however these cards are NOT serial-numbered. On each card, the foil-stamped Willie Mays logo found on all the regular reprint inserts has been replaced by Topps' "Certified Autograph Issue" stamp.
Unfortunately, counterfeits have surfaced on the secondary market. On these copies, both the autograph and Topps’ “Certified Autograph Issue” stamp are fake. Counterfeit Certified Autograph Issue stamps have a thicker font on the word ‘Autograph’ and specifically, the “g” and “r” will touch. In contrast, legitimate Certified Auto stamps feature thin letter fonts and there is clear space between the “g” and “r” letters in ‘Autograph’.

I appreciate all of your help. So the general consensus is nobody has ever seen a hand numbered one from this series. So it is most likely an attempt to boost the value because that would be a good number to have. Thank you all for your help
