QC was better than the prior two years. OPC Plat has never been a sure thing (even out of the pack) when it comes to centering or surface. I collect/consider 9 graded OPC Plat cards as high grade.

Following Prizm Football release week and seeing what feels like every major 1/1 and /10 card already surface makes me realize how few of the big cards from OPC Platinum we see pulled. How much of this stuff is just sitting around unopened?

It’s basically impossible to build a rainbow from this set over the past 2 years when you’re lucky to see one Emerald Surge /10 of any given player show up on the secondary market within 12 months of releases.

Hockey just doesn't have the same quantity of breakers as the other sports, so less of this is getting opened for sure.

In other sports I would think on equivalent product to this almost 75-80% gets opened by a breaker. Probably closer to 30-40% for hockey. Just a guess, but that's what it seems like to an uneducated goober like me.

Upper Deck has its e-pack platform where about 50% of the print run of OPCP will be available for sale.

No doubt, holding for e-Pack is another big difference. I do think overall relying on the general public to open themselves is a slower process.

I'm no fan of breaking at all, but the one benefit is it does release more singles into the marketplace at scale. That's not worth the downside to me
, but it's something.

Prizm is the set for football, you'd have to compare it to flagship not Platinum even if it's aesthetically closer to Platinum. If you're comparing OPC Platinum you'd have to put it against say an Optic and see if the pull rates are similar.

I’m a little new to hockey cards although I’ve bought UD hockey in the past for the YGs. With that said, YGs of stars are expensive! With TC & BC being THE RCs to have in baseball, prizm in basket and football, I find it odd that OPC Platinum has not picked up for hockey. Is it not the equivalent? Does anyone else see these going beyond YG prices in the future with the next generation of collectors since they like “shiny?” Or do you think the older collectors will influence the rule of thumb and it will be that way forever?

Last time I checked, Pastrnak and Draisaitl basic OPCP rookies from 14-15 were selling for decent money, McDavid from 15-16 too.
I got a few OPCP basic rookies over the years, they are fun and most are affordable, it’s nice to have cool looking rookies for not too much money!

I definitely like the look of them. Will probably pick up some up to hold onto long term. Doubt you really can go wrong if the big names do well overtime.

This stuff is dirt cheap in retail form and you can pick up qty of boxes blasters for around 25. I’m not sure if it’s a better option than buying upper deck series 2 or extended for not much more on retail end. Also Sp blasters can be had for $20 as can metal. Cheap wax on hockey product right now

Singles are the way to go, but these blasters are fun and affordable. I love regular OPC hobby too.
